Jozsefvaros is a predominantly residential area which grew as an inner suburb of Budapest in the 18th and 19th centuries, and retains much of its fine old architecture. Home to several university buildings, plus the National Museum and the Natural History Museum, it has a lively student scene, with plenty of fashionable cafes and bistros, and is currently undergoing rapid gentrification. Every May, the National Museum holds a weekend festival featuring live performances, short film screenings, and folk art displays.
