Hotel Excelsior Splendide - Bellagio

The hotel had a nice old-world feel about it but it was quite basic and the beds were really quite uncomfortable. Its a good hotel to stay at if you just want somewhere functional to stay at night rather than to spend a lot of time in the room. The lake view is fantastic though and well worth it!

Bellagio is spectacular. There is no other way of putting it and it has a fantastic location on Lake Como. And Hotel Excelsior Splendide has a fantastic location in Bellagio. It is very central and well placed for exploring in and out of the town. It is close to the main ferry jetty so it is very easy to hop on the boat and head to some of the surrounding areas (note, however, that this can make some of the rooms a little more noisy than some people might like). The rooms are a bit basic but very comfortable and you have everything you need. We had a lake facing room which, though open to the ferry noise, had a spectacular view across the lake - absolutely stunning. Breakfast (not great....but plenty of it) is included and there is free internet as well. The staff were helpful and there are plenty of restaurants around if you don't fancy eating in the hotel (we didn't try the hotel restaurant so can't comment). It's worth remembering that Bellagio is very expensive for accomodation so you do get a lot for your money at the Hotel Splendide when you consider the standard and location. Highly recommended!

We stayed for three nights in September 2008. The location is great, overlooking the lake with lots of good restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel was perfectly adequate and comfortable for our stay. It is not luxurious, but clean and comfortable and good value for money. There are some nicer hotels nearby but these are more expensive. The swimming pool was very welcome during the midday heat. Again, it is quite small and basic but clean. I would recommend this hotel if you are planning to be out most of the time, as the location is very good and the scenery is amazing.

We arrived in Bellagio with our hire car and encountered our first problem - where to park?! The hotel does not offer any parking and Bellagio has a BIG parking problem and we often had to park a good 15/20 minute walk away. (Thankfully, most of the car parks are free). Once we checked in to the hotel and made our way up to our lake view room we found that we had been given a (rather dated) twin room as opposed to the double that we had requested. When I asked reception if it was possible to be moved, we were told that all rooms were full that night and they would try to resolve the issue the following day. The next morning we were transferred into another lake view room on the 4th floor which was much more modern and had a little terrace overlooking the lake - beautiful! Breakfast at the hotel was below average - sweet croissants and doughnuts (!), cereal, bread, cheese and ham. Coffee and juice both from a machine! The hotel does have a pool which is outside and not heated. But it is pleasant enough and overlooks the lake which is nice. Overall, a nice hotel which is conveniently located but has seen better days and is in all honestly a bit overpriced!

God help me - if you had told me that the hotel was being knocked down the week after i stayed there i would have believed you. The room was awful, walls paper thin, floors creeked. The reception staff where very helpful but the breakfast was below standard served by staff with no glue. A great shame.

Great views from the hotel if you are lucky enough to get a lake view. Desk staff very helpful. Rooms can get very hot. Air conditioning is extra charge. Hotel seemed a bit stretched at breakfast time trying to cope with number of customers.

We found the spledide to be just that and had a wonderful stay The staff were helpful and always available Our room was clean and comfortable with a view of the lake that was just as we had hoped

Dirty hotel which needed a Gordon Ramsay to fix. The Hotel looked OK on approach but the attic rooms were small. No mattress protectors on bed. Pillows were hard rocks. Breakfast room emulating a cheap caffertia with plastic cups for juice. Service lacking and no leadership in any roles in the Hotel. We will never be back to Hotel Splendid.

Great location, front desk very helpful, breakfast OK BUT our room was very unattractive and the twin beds were like sleeping in a hammock!

This hotel is really bad. The floor bowed when you stepped on it. We turned on the light in the room and then turned on the bathroom light and the whole room shorted out. The hotel would be nice if they took care of it.

The room was smaller than we expected. The view of the lake was excellent. The service & the staff were excellent.

Could take better care of the swimming pool

Erg mooi oud hotel, maar mag opgeknapt worden. Kamer was prima, schoon, helaas geen airco wel een ventilator, met niet passende stekker!! Kregen wel binnen 10 minuten een andere ventilator. Ligging perfect, midden in het centrum. Klein zwembadje, maar voldoende voor een verfrissende duik. Ontbijt was prima.

A bit run down, but it is a very charming hotel. Great located by the lake. Nice staff and helpfull staff.

Superbement bien situé; et la piscine à l'arrière est un pur bonheur Dommage pour la qualité de l'accueil, un peu "limite" et pour la netteté de la chambre qui pourrait être améliorée Avec la vue sur le lac, on oublie tout...

Accueil sympa. Parties communes vielliotes mais chambre rénovée. Aucune chaine française dispo sur la télé. Salle de bain petite.

Ho prenotato una notte e mi sono travato molto male! Infatti io e mia moglie non abbiamo potuto dormire per quasi tutta la notte, in quanto il cliente della stanza superiore alla nostra ha tenuto la televisione accesa ad alto volume fino alle h. 4 di mattina, riaccendendola poi alle h. 7!!! Ho protestato per telefono con il portiere di notte, che mi ha detto di..........non poter fare nulla !!! Orbene, ditemi se è giusto pagare la non modica cifra di ? 130,90 per non poter dormire pressochè tutta la notte! La mattina dopo ho rinnovato la mia più viva protesta presso la "reception" e ho chiesto di rimborsarmi, se non tutto, almeno una parte del prezzo pagato (io e mia moglie abbiamo, infatti, fatto la colazione). La Direttrice mi ha risposto che era molto dispiaciuta, ma che non poteva aderire alla mia richiesta, sia perchè la prenotazione era stata fatta tramite un' Agenzia, sia perchè................"queste cose rientrano tra gli inconvenienti normali"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Secondo questa signora, il fatto che un cliente tenga acceso il televisore a tutto volume per quasi tutta la notte è, infatti, paragonabile al "pianto di un bambino piccolo" ...........!!!!! A parte questo, si tratta di albergo "old fashioned", in cui manca la manutenzione e la pulizia è scarsa. L'unica cosa bella di questo albergo è la posizione sul lago! Sconsiglio, pertanto, questa "location"!

Detta hotell som var ganska dyrt var verkligen inte värt pengarna. Hotellet kändes som ett 2 stjärnigt fast det var ett 3 och kostade som ett fyrstjärnigt. Vi blev så missnöjda att vi inte stannade sista natten (natt 3).

Am schlimmsten war der Lärm!Das Hotel liegt gegenüber von der Fährenanlegerstelle u. jeden Abend gab es sehr laute Live-Musik draussen in einer Bar in der Nähe.Das Essen machte auch keine Freude.
