Hotel Athenaeum - Florence

We spent 3 nights in the Hotel Anathaneum and couldn't fault it at all. On arrival the staff were efficient, helpful & friendly. They understood that we'd had a long, tiring journey and didn't want to hang araound waiting to get into the room so they issued the key immediately and took care of the paperwork later. The Hotel restaurant food was excellent and when you make use of the residents discount ticket its also quite reasonably priced (3 course meal for just 27 Euros). A special mention must go to the 2 bar / restaurant staff Pedro & Joe who went out of their way to help with everything from selecting a good local wine to tips on the best places to visit in the city. If you can pay a bit extra and try to get a 4th floor room with a balcony so you can sit out morning & evening.

Location is probably the best thing about hotel Athenaeum. It's a 10 - 15 minute (for slow people like me) walk down one street to the fantastic Duomo -- can't beat tha! The hotel is more high 3* than a 4* - less luxury and more tourist class. The decor aspires for "boutique" unique, and certainly wins points for breaking out of the beige, brown, floral bore that are the norm in many "contemporary" hotels. Athenaeum's color scheme is features bright splases of color and frosted glass (minimalist style). I got into it but one pair I met who were traveling on business preferred to relocate to a more traditional hotel with less of the "hip" factor. The hotel should pay attention to fine touches. I found nicks and scrapes along the wall of my room and the desk was a bit warped. These aren't minor things that come with normal wear and tear, but marks that you notice, which give the appearance of a hotel worn down. Some of the marks looked like dirty stains on teh walls. The bathroom, was super clean, crisp white, great (small but workable) glass shower. I found it modern and comfortable enough for me to enjoy, made me feel clean -- not all hotels can do that! I was also a bit disappointed in the laptop size TV -- call me spoiled, but it was an odd choice. Why not a normal TV? Front desk staff was great. The hotel has lots of windows in the communal area and huge windows in my room, so I saw tons of sunlight, which was really nice, despite the drabm industrial facade. I'd stay here again and will recommended it to anyone who doesn't require the luxury experience.

750 meters from the duomo. good safe area. Every museum, church, or point of interest within walking distance. Good breakfast to help your day get started.

We stayed at the Athenaeum Hotel during a long weekend in Florence. The hotel is a good 10-15 minute walk from the hotel to the Duomo and the central tourist area, which makes it difficult to pop in and out of the hotel too often during the day. However, it was no problem for us and we were very happy with our stay. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were amazingly helpful and we had a really pleasant stay. Our superior class room was a decent size, bathroom was fine and we had a balcony. The only negative was that the room was very hot and the aircon pumped out warm air rather than cold. But since we were able to open the windows and balcony door - all was well. All in all - good place.

Quite modern, very confortable rooms and great location to walk to all the sites in Florence. The staff was very courteous, they helped us find restaurants and in one case they found a restaurant and made a reservation for a table of 10. Nice workout room, internet service and very nice breakfast. Definitely would stay here again and would highly recommend it.

The staff was very helpful. The accommodations were excellent. It is a bit of a walk to the Duomo and other popular areas, but not overwhelming.

I felt like I was in a US hotel. It is modern, convenient and clean. Location is far from the noisy area and close to important museums. You need a taxi to/from the train station especially if you have luggages but it is not too far to be costly. Free internet is a plus. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We were pleased with the hotel, despite the long walks every day to the centre. The room was spacious with good storage facilities. The added bath robe and slippers were a nice touch. Our room overlooked the main road so it was fairly noisy, despite the windows closed. The breakfast offered a good variety of cereals, breads, cheese, meats and yogurts.

Many Italian hotels do not hold up to "American Standards". At least not ones that fall within a reasonable budget for the average traveler. But Hotel Athenaeum was ultra modern with a great comfortable clean room and very stylish decor. The staff is very friendly, the hotel is a 15 minute walk from the train station, and the daily included breakfast is very tasty. Free Internet tops it all off! I highly recommend it to travelers to Florence.
