The Mad Hatter Hotel - Londonas

Very pleasant little place. Hotel clean, tidy and surprisingly quiet considering its location. Pub downstairs has a nice selection of beers and the food is decent pub-grub. Ideal for a night or two, and only 10 mins walk from Waterloo station.

We took a chance by not going for one of the big chain hotels and we are so glad we did. The Mad Hatter is a lovely little hotel that has an excellent old but real pub downstairs with a great selection of PIE dinners. The room was very adequate and clean and we will stay there again, it was just nice to stay some ware that wasn’t corporate bland but did offer a well presented and clean hotel

We picked this hotel based on other hotel.com reviews and we were not disappointed. The location was perfect, close to a Underground station and located between many tourist attractions. However, if flying in from Heathrow, know that the price of a taxi will run about 80 pounds. That aside the rooms were nice sized and very clean. I also need to do a shout out to the Mad Hatter pub that actually served a vegetarian style sausage so I was able to have several of the British favorites... Vegi pie, Bangers and Mash vegi. It was fantastic. Great all around.

We have stayed several times before,most friendly and attentive staff at breakfast and comfortable hotel so near the river a few hundred yards.Although not a scenic view from the hotel,the fullers pub below has superb food especially pie and mashand the walk to the Modern Tate is wonderful.A 10-12 minute walk from waterloo station,hotel at end of Stamford Street past University.Always very clean bedrooms with nice tea tray and biscuits.We always stay when going to concerts

This was a reasonably priced hotel for London and was conveniently located for sightseeing. It was close to an underground station and a bus stop was just outside the hotel. It made traveling quite easy. The staff was always courteous and extremely helpful when we had questions about transportation arrangements or locations of things we wanted to see. The food in the restaurant wasn't the best but it was moderately priced and was acceptable. We would stay here again.

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel near the Tate Modern and I found that in the Mad Hatter. It' within walking distance of the Tate, the Globe, St. Paul's, and Waterloo station. If you enjoy walking like I do, there's a beautiful walking path right along the south bank of the Thames. From this path I was able to walk to the London Eye, Hayward Gallery, and cross the bridge over to Westminster. If you're not much of a walker there's a tube station near by and it also wasn't difficult to catch a cab right outside the hotel. The staff was very friendly and the tea service in our room was always stocked with hot chocolate, instant coffee, and a variety of teas and biscuits.

This was a decent hotel in a good location south of the Thames. I was on the first floor above their delivery area, which started receiving deliveries at around 4:30 and pretty loud. Otherwise, you get what you pay for.

Hotel was quite nice - better than expected as its a London Hotel! Bit surprised by cost of drinks in the bar but guessed they were increased due to Bank Holiday + Wedding.

Not a picturesque location, but close to transit and a lot of central London attractions. Room was reasonably clean but housekeeping didn't replenish the TP/kleenex so we had to call down to get more. Internet access was confusing because it made it seem like you had to pay extra but they give you a code if you call down and ask. Would have preferred if breakfast was included. It's such a common thing that it seems a little chintzy to make you pay extra. I probably wouldn't have noticed an extra $5-$10 a night if it was included in the room rate, but the $20+/day it would have cost us to eat in the pub seemed excessive for a continental breakfast so we just bought muffins, etc. at the store and ate in our room.

The hotel was clean, quiet and near the Underground. The room was slightly crowded with the double bed and single bed, small table, chair and dressing table. Since the reservation was for 2 I`m not sure why we needed the extra bed. The staff were very nice and helpful, but the neighborhood lacks any real character. We got what we needed.

Comfy, quietish and friendly hotel with well prepared if predicatable 'pie and pint' fare. Minor quibbles only - room fittings slightly less than contemporary, TV signal/picture quality was indifferent, and the bathroom sink was due for unblocking, but none of this significanlty detracted from a pleasant stay in a conveniently placed hotel. Would use again if staying in S London.

Location is excellent, 10 min walk from Victoria 2 mins from Southbank and 15 from the City. It is much quieter than expected. And all that at a good price - but beware if you are over 1.90 - beds are small.

An ideal place to stay for South bank attractions, and very good value on a weekend deal.

Great location for the money.Friendly staff.Map is wrong as to location.The hotel is about 8 blocks from Waterloo Station rather than the 4 the map shows.It is three blocks from Southwark on the Jubalee Line but this station is closed for repatrs at present.The restaurant and bar are one in the same.Good food but a bit noisey.

The only thing we found wrong with the hotel was the lack of a separate restaurant.The bar served good food but the noise was a littlr much.The location is at the corner of Blackfriars and Samford which is twice as far from the Waterloo Station as the map shows.It is three blocks north from the Southwark station on the Jubalee Line which is closed for repairs now but will be great when it reopens.Hotel staff was great.

I would classify The Mad Hatter as a quality budget hotel. The room wasn't immaculate nor recently updated, but it was functional. The bathroom could have used a bit of maintenance, but it was still usable and not dirty. The hotel itself is within walking distance of Waterloo rail and underground station and a few sites like the London Eye and the Tate Modern. Overall, the Mad Hatter meets expectations - you won't pay luxury rates, so you won't get luxury. You will get a simple, usable room.

We have been staying at the Mad Hatter for many years. The hotel is ideally located for visits to the London Eye, St. Paul's, Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, and Borough Market. While not luxurious, the rooms are comfortable and always clean. We find the hotel to be reasonably priced for central London. In addition, the first floor of the hotel is home to a pub that serves Fuller's real ales.

My fiancee and myself stayed here for a concert in Brixton on 08/11/08. We arrived soaked cos of the rain and was early to book in, but the receptionist was great and said our room would be ready in about 30 mins. So we had lunch in the. Bloody lovely! The atmosphere of the pub is great, i loved the decor (not to mention the food). After our tummies were fed, we made or way to our room. It had everything we needed for the night. The bed was soooo somfy i wished i could fold it into my bag and take it home! When we came back from our concert, we knew that we could ring the bell by teh door and someone would let us in, which they promply did - at midnight that was a godsend! Breakfast the next morning was lovely! But thier fry-ups will never beat my dad's! I would definalty recommend this hotel again, but my only gripe was that it cost quite a lot and could have got cheaper else where, but when you consider the history of the building and how great the satff are, it worth it. Thank you Mad Hatter!

Having a restaurant right there on the premises was very nice. The whole ambiance of the hotel was fabulous. We loved it and would stay there again if we ever get back to London.

A small, friendly, reasonably priced hotel with good selection of food and drink served in the large spacious bar. Rooms tend to be very warm, particularly in the summer months, but large pedestal fans thoughtfully provided in rooms. The only criticisim is that the room we stayed in did not have a cover over the mattress which made the bed feel slightly lumpy. All in all a good place to stay with Waterloo Station and the South Bank area only about 15 minutes walk away. This has been our fourth visit and probably won't be our last!

This was my second stay at the Madhatter Hotel on Stamford Street (a stone's throw from South Bank's National Theatre and Tate Modern). As before i was impressed with the hotel's staff, service and rooms - it's the perfect place to be if you fancy somewhere unique, friendly, stylish and near to the bohemian hustle bustle of this area of London. We walked to The Lyceum Theatre to catch a show and were very close for a business meeting the next day. The rooms were comfortable & food was very good - both breakfast & the pie n mash pub fare sold in the bar downstairs. My only criticism would be that there was bad reception on the TV and the hotel was extremely hot, but they provided a fan in every room so this wasn't a problem. The Madhatter hotel comes highly recommended and I'll definitely be going back.

I enjoyed my stay at the Mad Hatter. It was a cute hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was nice and quiet. The breakfast was great. It is in a great location. The only problem I found was the bed was not the most comfortable. But I would go back. Thanks

Located on the South Bank, the hotel is away from the thriving city centre. It is very close to Southwark tube station though, and only 15 minutes on the bus (cost £2) from Liverpool Street train station. There are a few hidden gems in the way of bars and restaurants on the Cut, and under the nearby railway bridges, and is very handy for the Old Vic theatre and the Tate Modern. Hotel itself is a little isolated in what seems to be an up and coming area that just isn't quite up there yet. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were what you'd expect from one of the older, more tired, Holiday Inn's - not a problem in itself, but the hotel was a good bit more expensive than that. A decent spot for the tourist if you are getting a good rate, but would probably stay more centrally if travelling on business.

This hotel is very well located, on the south bank, between the Tower Bridge and the Eye. The room are spacious enough, clean. I have nothing to complain about it.

Ma copine et moi y avons été durant le weekend prolongé de Pâques (soit 2 nuits), nous voulions visiter Londres. La situation géographique est idéale, à 2 pas du quai de la Tamise, vers la gare Waterloo et donc pas très loin de London eye. Un bus dans la rue de l'hôtel emmène directement à Tower Bridge et l'autre sens du même bus emmène à la station Waterloo.De plus, la proximité du quai de la Tamise insite à des balades à pied, en 30 minutes à pied on accède à Big Ben! De plus le cadre 19e siècle "british" de l'hôtel vous séduira! Personnel à l'écoute et agréable, chambres confortable. Idéal pour un weekend de 2-3 jours! Seul bémol : petits déjeuners non compris, mais le prix (7,5 Livres par personne pour un buffet copieux) reste abordable et a l'avantage de rester sur place

Samen met mijn zoon een heerlijk verblijf. De Mad Hatter is een uitstekende uitvalsbasis voor een Londentrip.

Hotellet er ok, har en hyggelig bar, og et serviceinnstilt personale. Rommene går fint an å bo noen døgn på, sengene var komfortable. Hotellet er noe slitt/slitent, og renholdet kunne vært mye, mye bedre. Litt støvete/småskittent, sengetrekk burde vært skiftet ut. Hotellet ligger nært Tate og London Eye, og ligger fint til ift turer langs Themse. Imidlertid ligger hotellet noe for langt unna til at man kan spasere inn til underholdnings/shoppingskvarteret. Taxi er jo imidlertid rimelig og lett å få tak i. Alt i alt, ok fornøyd, men kommer nok ikke til å bestille der igjen.

L'hôtel est très bien situé. Il est accolé au cartier piéton de qui entoure le célèbre London Bridge, où l'on peut trouver de nombreux pubs, bar à vins et autres cafés, très animés en fin de journée. Il est à deux rues de la station Southwark sur la ligne Jubilee, près d'une post office et à dix minutes du noeud ferroviaire de Waterloo. Il est à quelques pas du Millenium Bridge, de la Tate Modern et de la promenade du Jubilee qui longe la Tamise. C'est un établissement cossu et typiquement british, qui intègre un pub prisé, vaste et agréable. On peut donc s'y restaurer facilement.

not fancy, but friendly and comfortable place and quite central between tate modern, globe and national theaters. knowing other hotels in london, this one seems excellent value for the price. no air-condition. several rooms on the quiet back-yard. rooms fairly large.
