Zanhotel Canale - Bolonija

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. We arrived in the late afternoon, and the only room that was available was room #1: on the ground floor immediately across from reception. The room smelled funny, and was very noisy throughout the night and in the morning. As we were checking in, we had thought that the room won't be great and asked to be transferred, but no other room was available. We asked for another room the following morning, and were given a room on the third floor, which was very nice, spacious, clean, and quiet. Breakfast is not great, and an internet point is advertised but the internet did not work. But otherwise we had a nice experience.

Bologna is a small but bustling city. This hotel is within the central core of the town, where the car traffic is limited. It is just off the main street of the town, which is a constant stream of buses and people and provides an easy way to get started into the city as well as finding your way home. From within the hotel, you'd think you were in the countryside, because it is very quiet. With the curtain drawn it was so dark and quiet that I overslept my first day of business. (There are no clocks, by the way, which is a deficiency.) After being in Paris a couple of days when I could be assured the cars would get me up, this was quite a change. The room was also relatively large, the bed was comfortable. The window from my room pointed toward the canale, which I couldn't quite see rom the room but which must have helped make that side of the hotel more quiet.

The best thing about this hotel is its location: In the very center of Bologna, walking distance to everywhere, while the street is rather quiet. The breakfasts were good, and rooms were OK. However, the service could be much better. Prepare to pay 5 euro per hour on Internet; there is no Wifi. The employees do not know that there is in fact free Wifi Internet in the center of the city and in a few cafes. The personnel is bewildered by even the simplest requests. For example, it took several days to get an iron. Getting a corkscrew turned into another unsolvable problem. Finally, we had to go to a local bar and asked them to open our bottle of wine. However, for the price they charge, this is a bargain!

Perfect location for walking, shopping and sightseeing. Only 30 metres from one of the main shopping streets in Bologna: via dell Indipendenza. Within walking distance of the towers, the Piazza Maggiore and Basilica di San Petronio and more!

The hotel met all our needs. The location was great, in the central city.

Clean room, freindly staff and great positioning for foot based exploration of the town centre. Nothing too fancy but very acceptable. Small and 'friendly' breakfast area with ample grub to set the day up. would use again.

Great location for the money -- within walking distance of Piazza Maggiore, the historic center of Bologna, many trattorias and shops. Be sure to visit the Maison du Monde, a great home furnishings store. The hotel is situated in what most Americans would consider an "alley", but this is a typical side street in an ancient Italian city. Rooms were comfortable, typical small European shower, very nice breakfast buffet. Night front desk attendant does not speak English. Be sure to make your wake-up call request before he comes on duty.

Day shift man did not speak any English. We got a parking ticket because he failed to give us a daily parking pass. The hotel did take care of that problem for us. Didn't do well with laundry-didn't come back on same day although that was requested and it was Very expensive

The room was large and very nice,nice bathroom. Advertised as multilingual staff but our day manager couldn't speak any English. Laundry was requested at end of day (as on slip) but had to be specially sent over that evening. And it was very expensive. Got a ticket because day manager didn't give us new parking passes. The hotel said they would take care of it. Close to shopping and train.

Very clean and spacious room (no. 24),decent sized bathroom with plenty of toiletries.Good breakfast and coffee.Away from main road so relatively quiet and just 10 mins from bus/train station,5 mins from main square.Very friendly and helpful,English-speaking staff.Weak air-conditioning - didnt seem to work at all on last night.

We chose this hotel for a 2 night stay in Bologna. We walked from the train station and found the hotel with no problem. Check-in was fast and friendly. Our triple room was huge, with high ceilings and nice furnishings. Breakfast was above average, with extremely friendly service. The hotel is a block from a very busy steet, but is on a quiet block in an old section with good restaurants and charming narrow streets. I recommend this hotel to anyone; I think it's a great find in a great central location.

The Zanhotel Canale is just inside the "no-car" zone, but can still be reached by taxi. This means that it is much quieter than hotels nearby right on via Independence, but outside the zone. Our family room was very large and very comfortable. I would go back there again!

We were given a room with A/C that did not work. The second night we were given a choice to change rooms and we took that up. The second room was smaller but the A/C worked! That was important in 80+F. The location is excellent. The beds were good, and the breakfast acceptable. Would stay again if the price was less.

Hotellet ligger i en rolig bakgate til hovedgaten med kort vei til restauranter, jernbane og severdigheter. Store rom, hyggelig og serviceinnstilt ansatte, god og lang frokost.

Finfint hotel i mitten av Bolognas gamla stad. Svårt att hitta dit, men får man bilen parkerad och har landat i hotellet, är det värt det.

Nice room, good airconditioning, excellent location in the middle of historical Bologna. Airport shutlle stops right in front of the hotel.

Nice and friendly hotel positioned in the center which I can recommend. The hotel is in the ZTL zone so take care on choosing the right streets when entering the hotel by car.

Hotel in centro, vicinissimo a tutto! Camera molto spaziosa e pulita, personale cordiale e disponibile. Colazione ok. Unica pecca, il condizionatore che faceva rumore e non si riusciva a spegnere. Ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo, lo consiglio a tutti

Bra hotell mitt i Bologna. Rent och snyggt. Litet badrum. Ingen separat dusch i badrummet utan man duschade på golvet i princip där toalettstolen var placerad.

Trevligt hotell med perfekt läge i centrala Bologna. Lite små rum men allt väldigt rent och fräscht. Trevlig personal. Utvidgad kontinental frukost. Jag återvänder gärna.

Bien placé et très agréable

Vi reiste i april og hadde stort familerom ut mot en liten gate. Våren var kommet, men hotellet hadde likevel aircondition på "vinter", noe som medførte at det kun kom varm luft. Vi måtte derfor sove med vinduene åpne. Mye støy fra personer som gikk forbi på vei hjem fra byen, helt frem til ca kl 01. Ca kl 07 begynte feiemaskinene med gatevask. Vi spurte hotellet om vi kunne få kaldluft på aircon, men fikk beskjed om at dette ble styrt sentralt, og at det ikke var noe hotellet kunne gjøre med dette. Støy ødela derfor for vår familietur og trekker ned. I positiv retning var stort familierom, OK frokost og sentral beliggenhet.

Although you shouldnt expect a five start treatment, Il Canale fully lived up to our expectations. Everything was working properbly, it was clean and neat, and the staff was very helpfull at all time. I would definatly return for another stay

Von Aussen bekommt man erst einen Schreck. Sieht vergammelt aus, ein Sex - Shop direkt beim Hotel, hat allerdings nicht damit zu tun. Ab dem Betreten ist alles in Ordnung, geschmackvoll, stilgerecht eingerichtet. Großes geräumiges Zimmer und Bad. Leider sieht man beim Öffnen der Fenster nur eine gegenüberliegende Hauswand.

Centralt i Bologna, stort, dejligt, lunt værelse (frost udenfor), venligt personale

Meget sentralt hotell i nærheten av hovedgaten for shopping og kultur. Frokost spartansk i litt for små rom. Trangt når folk gjekk forbi bordet for å hente mat. Sakna og en koselig hotell lobby.

Enkelt hotell med bra läge och trevlig personal.

Für ein Dreistern-Hotel gut ausgestattet. Zufahrt aufgrund der Einbahnregelungen nicht einfach. Keine hoteleigenen Parkmöglichkeiten. Klimaanlage war überfordert.

Im Zentrum, super Service, sprechen fast alle Englisch, Frühstück ganz o.k., wer eine ruhige Übernachtung möchte sollte außerhalb der Stadt buchen

Sehr zentral, alles sauber und mit Liebe auch zum Detail. Man fühlt sich in jeder Hinsicht gut aufgehoben. Sogar das Frühstück ist für itallienische Verhältnisse ausgezeichnet. Das Hotel ist zunächst nicht ganz einfach zu finden. Es liegt in einer winzigen Nebengasse. Leider ist unten ein sex-shop, was uns anfangs etwas irritiert hat. Der Shop beeinflusste unseren Aufenthalt jedoch überhaupt nicht. Resümee: sehr empfehlenswert.

Das Hotel ist mit dem Auto sehr schwer erreichbar, trotz GPS, doch 10 Minuten vom Bahnhof (zu Fuß). Ist man mal dort, fühlt man sich wohl und ist an allen -großartigen - Sehenswürdigkeiten Bolognas rasch zu Fuß.

I stayed at Hotel Canale for three nights. For a hotel that price it was a fair bargain. Good breakfast. Be aware that the hotel is next to a sex shop, though.
