we staid there because it was sort of convenient to McCormick place and reasonably priced but the hotel didn't meet even minimum requirements. The place is run down, no elevator, dingy, banged up furniture, bad internet conncetion, and about 8 TV channels, 5 of them in Chinese, one in Spanish and the rest shopping channels. No hairdryer in the room (I scored one by calling reception, had to go down myself, though to pick it up because nobody could be bothered to bring it up), no light on the nightstand (annoying!), etc. My colleague came back one day to find the door to his room was wide open - apparently the cleaning personnel left it open to make it easier to go around and do their job. His computer was in there, other belogings, etc. nothing was missing but scary nonetheless. My room looked out on the street which ceated some issues with noise late at night but was a luxury suite compared to the one my colleague had which looked out onto a wall and was so small he could barely turn around. Most roadside motels are fancy compared to this hotel. Positive things: cheap for Chicago, lots of Chinese restaurants around, bed and bath reasonably clean.

I would not recommend this hotel to the non-adventurous. The benefit of staying here is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. It is a block for the red line, which zips you to anywhere in the city, perfect for baseball fans. Parking is a bear and there are ZERO amenities, but everything worked at least. Oh, it is pretty cheap too! Good food in the neighborhood, obviously only if you like Chinese Quisine!

Room was questionably clean but minimally acceptable because of it location and comparative cost. Nice staff, no frills, little to no up-keep or cleaning beyond bare minimum to turn over room. I’d say you get what you pay for; but, except in comparison to the alternatives (which are much less conveniently located) you don’t get much.

This is an old hotel and has the smells of same. The multi-story hotel has no elevator, thus if you stay here, it is best to ask for a first floor room, which is still a walk up 1 flight of stairs. The bathroom was fine, maid service fine, heating was provided by a portable plug in. Best thing was that the CTA train station was around the corner and only about a 30 min ride directly to Midway Airport. The other good part is that McCormick Place is only about a 15 minute walk, so great if you're attending a Chgo trade show on a budget. Ask the desk for referrals to inexpensive but great local dining. It's possible to eat a great meal for under $5.

Definitely not the Ritz Carlton, but it is like half the price of any other Hotels.com listed hotel in downtown Chicago and for the price it's a pretty decent hotel. Staff was friendly and the place was safe and clean. I was only there a night but I ate a great Chinese place that wasn't but a stone's throw away. My only real complaint is that the listing says guest parking available, which I guess is technically correct if you count the street. However this is downtown Chicago so finding street parking is akin to winning the lottery, which oddly enough I managed to do.

This is really more of a hostel than a hotel, although all of the guests I saw were adults, mostly Asian. The hotel is old, as is the furniture, bedding, carpets, plumbing, etc. The only heat came from a space heater. Surprisingly, I saw no roaches or rodents. The "lounge" consisted of hot and cold water, and one computer with a broken printer. If you don't mind cheap accommodations, you're in for some fabulous chines food and the fun and culture of Chinatown. I stayed here because I had a convention nearby and didn't want to pay two to three times the price. But, I got what I paid for.

Staff were friendly. Location for great due to proximity to McCormick Place. No 21 bus takes you there within 5 minutes. Also Red line station is within a block, and you can reach downtown Chicago within 10 minutes. Room was very basic and small but clean. About 10 English language, 2-3 Chinese and 2-3 Latino channels on TV. Carpets in the corridors and in the room needs changing.

My room clearly had not been cleaned when i first arrived. That kind of grossed me out at first. Also, the furniture and fixtures were in bad shape. The room was very small but I expected that and it didn't bother me much as I did not spend much time there. I guess it is a good place if you are on a budget but if you are into cleanliness you might want to spend some more money instead. The location is also very convenient to the transport system and the city center which I appreciated as that is where I spent my time in Chicago.

This was a good hotel for the price. My four day stay was around $400 including parking which was about half the price of the downtown hotels. Great location in charming Chinatown about a mile and a half from downtown. You don't need a car; the red line CTA station is a block from the hotel. Great authentic Chinese restaurants and shops in a totally safe area with lots of families walking around. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was tiny but clean. The accomodations were spartan but you're not paying for luxury. My only problem was my cell phone signal was very weak. I had trouble using it from my room. My laptop worked fine with their wireless internet. Overall worth the money.

This hotel was absolutely fine. It met all basic requirements for people who don't want to spend a lot but want to be close to downtown. Although the staff was difficult to understand, they were extremely helpful. When we asked about parking, the man at the front desk told us we could take his spot on the street (free parking right in front of the door) when he ended his shift in 20 minutes. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place to go. If you don't plan on spending too much time in the hotel and want a convenient location, I recommend this place.

However, overall the hotel is clean, has a comfortable double bed, your own bathroom and a microwave and refrigerator in their lunchroom to store and heat take home food. Front desk staff is o.k. depending on who you are dealing with. I was pleasantly surprised with the facilities in this hotel. The Standard room I have booked for was ready before the 3pm check-in time. It was a compact room but as I only needed the room to get a good night's sleep, it didn't really matter at all. I was initially skeptical about the condition of the toilet but it turned out to be squeaky clean. You can get free coffee, hot and cold drinking water, the use of a microwave oven and internet access in the clean, brightly-lit 'kitchen'. Location wise-it's just less than 5 mins walk to the Cermak-Chinatown(Red Line) stop and from there it's a short ride to downtown Chicago. The ladies at the front desk were helpful in setting my orientations right and recommending places to see during my overnight stay in Chicago. I find Jenny friendly most probably because I was able to converse with her in Mandarin.

This hotel was an incredible deal! It was by far the cheapest hotel we could find IN Chicago. I absolutely loved this hotel because it gave us an opportunity to stay 1 minute from the El and navigate through the city. We parked the car within steps of the hotel (we got lucky in finding a free parking spot but there is an incredibly cheap and safe parking lot 1 block away) and walked all over the city. The hotel was cheap and perfectly located. In no way are these complaints but just an idea of what the hotel was like. Despite my love for the staff, location, and overall experience, this is definitely a no frills hotel. If you are looking for plush bedding, a spotless room, and amenities galore, skip over this hotel. This place is solely a nice, relatively clean room in the heart of Chinatown that is affordable and gives ppl who otherwise can't afford to stay IN the city, a place to rest and enjoy Chicago. Our room was tiny (which I didn't mind) and we had to rent 2 rooms for our group of 4 (we had been staying in 1 room every other location we had gone). Everything was clean enough. In no way did I feel that everything was perfectly sanitized and there was a SLIGHT mildewey feel to the place but I could easily overlook this minor details because the price and location were right. In no way was this a dirty hotel - it is very well maintained with incredibly friendly staff. I had no problem understanding the owners, they were nothing but helpful. I loved staying in Chinatown and getting to explore the surrounding markets. The neighborhood is incredibly safe, clean, and bursting with culture. We went out that night and stayed out until 3 in the morning and while they lock the door and you must ring the doorbell to get in, it wasn't a problem and somebody was at the front desk ready. This is a GREAT location - if I ever come to Chicago again I am absolutely staying here. This place is excellent!!!

The out of service elevators (under repair) was the biggest problem for the hotel. I recommend staying in this hotel if: 1. You speak a little Chinese or can understand broken Chinese / English 2. You know the L-train red line or can figure it out easily 3. You can take your bags up stairs Important comments: 1. The telivision had few English speaking chanels - and the reception was bad for them 2. There was a coffee maker in the room - but no coffee or mugs 3. In the room I stayed in there was an alley behind the room that had bright lights on all night (I could read by the light coming from the window well after dark) 4. Also with the alley the trash was picked up at 5:30am 5. My room was a "Deluxe Room" which was very nice. It was actually a suite of rooms with a huge bathtub. The same room in the loop would have cost more than five hundred dollars. 6.It is really easy to get to the red line from the hotel and the trip into downtown is brief. 7. There were several bakery located near the hotel that I highly recommend. 8. There were no dining options other than Chinese food (That I noticed) 9. Most of the merchants speak only Chinese and make no real effort to understand you - be prepared to communicate yourself in other ways I enjoyed it and I will probably stay there again because it is so close to the red line and the value was pretty good.

The loacation and the price were the major pluses. I was attending a Conference at McCormick Place which was an easy ten minute walk from the Hotel. The Red Line train which got you into downtown Chicago in under fifteen minutes was also within easy reach. The staff of were polite and helpful even though English was not their native language. The major negatives were the small size of the room (not much space to move around) and the porus walls. On the other hand If you enjoy things oriental there is an abundance of resturants and shops to choose from. All in all fair value for money if you do not plan to spend a great deal of time on property

Chinatown Hotel is more like a small European Hotel then an American Hotel. There is no elevator, the room is small, the carpet is old and the furniture older. But the bed was clean and comfortable, the a/c worked great and the bathroom (en suite) was clean and functional. Great for a one-night stay when you are just planning on sleeping there and then moving on. Right in the heart of Chinatown, easy access to Redline and great food just outside the door. Not so easy to get to from Union Station -- in that case, take a cab, it was only $8.00.

The man at the desk told someone while I was there that they had used on 10 of 88 the night before. Come on folks where's the customer service here! Secondly, nothing in the write up says that the building does not meet ADA. The building is totally walk up and they put me on the 4th floor even though they were not near full. Finally, there were some missing switch plate covers that would be dangerious to small children. They seem to try hard but most guest unfriendly place I have ever stayed.
