Affinia 50 Hotel - Niujorkas

We were thrilled with our hotel suite. Plenty of space for our family of five! The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and accomodating. We all loved selecting our pillow from the "pillow menu", too. I will definitely stay at the Affinia 50 next time we go to NYC.

It was perfectly located for everything we wanted to do. The staff trully made you feel as if they cared about your NY experience.

We chose this hotel because we need an affordable suite location for a family trip to NYC. Location was good -- quick walk to Rockefeller Center / Central Park / etc. Street was not overly busy. Suite was a good size. Bathroom was a nice size and modern/pleasant. Kitchenette was very dated, but clean. The low point was the lobby and common areas (hallways) and the staff. Concierge was worthless and never seemed to be available when needed (such as on a Saturday, mid-day). Front desk staff was worthless when asking for neighborhood recommendations. Elevator service was slow. Elevator noise in our room was significant in all rooms but the bedroom. Overall, a decent, functional choice. Nothing spectacular.

The hotel overall was very good, but the noise from the streets was loud. I suggest the hotel install windows that suppress the noise. The first night there I got little sleep, and the others weren't much better.

The bed and pillows were super comfortable. Fantastic air-conditioning in the July summer. Great water pressure in the shower. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Free coffee was tasty and convenient. The doormen were always there to hold the door or hail me a cab- I felt very pampered! Since my flight didn't leave for a few hours after I checked-out, they offered to hold my suitcase so I could wander around until I needed to head to the airport. I hadn't even thought of that! It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I felt the service and comfort was worth the price.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The livingroom and kitchen were great. They enabled us to relax, eat in, and entertain guests comfortably. The hotel staff were very friendly and cooperative. Location for us was perfect.

May stay here was lovably, the hotel was clean, odor free, comfortable and located in a great location.

We recently stayed at Affinia 50 Hotel and thouroughly enjoyed our stay. From the very beginning, the front desk staff were freindly and efficient with check-in. Our junior suite room was very large (especially by NYC standards)and spotlessly clean. The location is ideal with easy access to subway and Midtown attractions. Having the small but user frindly kitchenette is a real plus and allowed us to do our own breakfasts. Our only comment is about the in-room coffee maker, which is very small (resulting in small cups of coffee). That being said, the hotel does provide free coffee in the second floor business center and breakfast area.

The bed was good, but we paid no attention to the pick-a-pillow or whatever they called the flexible comfort feature. We were on floor 3 and experienced only incidental street noise (fire siren once and garbage pick-up very briefly) - not enough to cause a loss of sleep. Otherwise, we heard virtually no other noise from either the hallway or from adjoining rooms. Once in our room it was almost as though we were the only guests. We skipped the $15 continental breakfast and went to a full scale breakfast buffet for $16 just two doors west of the Affinia 50. The daily manager's reception failed to materialize and was an inconvenience since we had planned on having appetizers to tide us over until dinner after going to Carnegie Hall. However, we survived.

Very good location. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff was very courteous, friendly, and helpful.

I read many reviews of hotels in NYC before deciding on Affinia 50 and I'm happy with my decision. The hotel in on the east side near so many great little restaurants I couldn't ask for more. The room was a large for Manhattan and had a small kitchen, so we went to the grocery store to purchase a few items to keep in the room. It's a quick walk to uptown or midtown and an even shorter walk to the subway. The staff was extremely friendly especially the doormen who were very accomodating. There is a parking garage across the street. We didn't use it because we didn't see it when we checked in so we used the hotel valet parking which was $45.00/day.

Loved: Great mid-twon location, big room, comfy bed. Nice front desk staff. Could have done without: pricey continental breakfasts. Yeah, $$$ even by New York standards. Big tip: That cute little Burger Bar on the corner? Skip it.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone! The service was excellent, the rooms clean and very comfortable (loved the pillows). We had five women in one room and never felt crowded, having the small kitchen was a huge plus. The hotel is located within walking distance of Central Park, Rockefellar Center, Theatre District, etc! I'll certainly stay at this hotel again.

The suites are much larger than other NYC hotels - about 500 sq/ft. The service was great. The location is decent. The beds are comfortable (and so are the pullout couches). Overall, a great experiance.

I have read the stellar reviews of this location. I cannot say that the Affinia lives up to them. Of course, we had a fantastic rate, so maybe that is why our third floor room was average, at best.I don't know; however, I can say the tub area needed work. Mildew stains were evident and certain tub areas were in want of caulking. Additionally, the housekeepers had neglected to remove one dirty coffee cup with a dirty spoon from the room...this oversight was minor. In spite of these negative observations, I would definitely stay here again (if the price was right). It wasn't perfect, but by NY standards, it was good. If you are on a tight budget, fly into JFK. Take the AirTrain (located in JFK) to Jamaica Station and switch to the subway E train...you can save yourself quite a bit of money on your taxi fare. The E drops you off within one or two blocks of the hotel, and it only costs $7.00. I only travel with carry-on...makes public transportation possible.

If the Affinia 50 was a person, it would be an aging housekeeper - clean and efficient, but rather charmless and badly in need of a facelift. The rooms are big by any standard, and huge for NYC, but everything about the place screams corporate chain. The decor is comfortable and unoffensive, bad art fills the spaces between the furniture and the elevator walls are adorned with company jargon. The Affinia 50 is one step up from a low-budget, nationwide chain hotel, but it doesn't quite make it into the luxury category. I think it would be great for young families and business travellers who want somewhere safe, spacious and affordable, but a bad choice for romantic getaways and those of us who like their hotels to have a little personality. The location is great but in my experience, you can easily find somewhere more glamorous for your money.

The hotel was a pleasant surprise. Comfortable bed, great location, and great price for NYC. The room was very clean and well kept. The only problem was that the shower did not drain very well. Other than that, very good hotel.

This was our second time to stay here. The weekend rate was reasonable. It's a very pretty hotel and the location is good.

The suites are huge and the hotel is really funky. Loved the location and would stay there again.

Everyone of the staff were very friendly and accommodating and welcoming too. They upgraded my room for a fee but my family was very comfortable. We will stay there or in any one of the Affinia Hotels in Manhattan should the need be there again.

The hotel room was larger than expected, and great to have a separate room when travelling with young children. The location was superb and staff very friendly. The only complaint is that bathroom was quite small for the size of the room and no working vent on an interior bath.

We were very impressed by the size of the room at this Mid-Town hotel. I have stayed in other hotels in this neighborhood and this is the largest room I have seen for the price. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Unfortunately I did not arrive until midnight to check-in. When I presented my information I was immediately given 2 keys to my complimentary upgraded room. When the woman told me, I actually replied, "Wait, complimentary what?" The room was very spacious, the bathroom was beautiful, the lobby is gorgeous, the doorman was exceptionally informative and kind...the list goes on and on. It may just be me, but I loved the shower head which allowed full customization and the temperature dial. I found the water pressure was outstanding and the temperature in the shower changed effortlessly to perfection. Also enjoyed the "pillow menu" and just had a wonderful experience.

I stayed at Affinia 50 for two nights with my 5-year-old son. The room was a one bedroom suite and was very nice. I was happy with the concierge, who helped us find stores and get around the city. Overall, I'd go back. The only (slightly) negative things are not so negative as just strange. For instance, the phone and clock in the bedroom didn't work. No biggie, but it was odd (I did not call maintenance to fix it). I couldn't seem to get the heat to work at night, so it was a little chilly. Also, when you opened the fridge door, it hit the light switch in the kitchen, shutting off the lights. Finally, it seems that there are only two elevators for hundreds of rooms. Sometimes, it was a long wait. Again, however, the rooms were nice-- probably the largest hotel room I've seen in New York for that price -- and well maintained. I guess all places have quirks.

Extra large space & quality - unbelievable

Extremely friendly/helpful staff. Great sized room for the price (and for NYC). Very convenient location. I will definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

We spent two nights at the Affinia 50 Hotel with our teenage daughters and it worked out really well for us in terms of location and comfort!

My daughter live in NYC and she has a very small apt so we always book a hotel. This one was great. The rooms were big and the employees were happy and very accomadating. I would recomend this hotel to all. The price was decent but very well worth it because it was convient to all the best places!

The Affina 50 was a real bargain. The location was great, the room cost was very favorable and in addition the hotel staff upgraded us to a two room suite for the same price. We love the location and the Affina 50 staff was very attentive.

Located at East 50th and 3rd Ave, it is down the street from Rockefeller Center and within reasonable walking distance to Times Square and Central Park. The neighborhood was safe to walk late at night. Previous guests had complained about construction work that had been going on. However, by Christmas 2008 construction was complete. The hotel is older but neat. We had a room with 2 queens and a queen pull out sofa. It was very roomy. The doormen were very friendly. For Monday night football, they provide complimentary beers on the second floor for those watching the game. My only complaint is that I was charged for a rollaway that I did not use. It had been in the room when we checked in. I asked the bellhop to remove it since the room obviously had enough sleeping space for my family of five. Two and a half months after staying there, my credit card showed a charge for three nights of rollaway use. I still have not been able to clear this up. No matter what time of day I call to speak with someone in Accounting, I receive voice mail. Although I have left messages, no one has ever called me back.

Good location at 50th near 3rd avenue. Comfortable sized room. No problems with the service.

Friendly staff, great location, and a HUGE room (Junior Suite). Only criticism is the room was very hot and the A/C was not functional. Had to open windows at night to make it tolerable, which meant we had to listen to street noise all night. Why does everyone in NYC love to blow their car horns ALL THE TIME?

Hotel service was great and you can't beat the location. I traveled to NYC with my wife and two kids (ages 8 & 6) and we felt the Affinia 50 was very kid friendly.

Very happy with the size of the rooms in this hotel. The included kitchen is great for storing leftovers. Location is excellent. We had a problem with the drainage in the bathroom, and our "view" was the windowless side of a brick building, but everything else was great.

Got to love the guitar and yoga mat add ons. Kids loved it.

The staff at the hotel are more than willing to personalize your stay and make it pleasant. Friendly, responsive, and upbeat.

Highlights: Greatest bellman ever!! Upgraded to suite due to unavailability of booked room. (We were second family at check-in counter that happened to). Low-lights: Bathtub would not drain, up to ankles in water by end of shower. Kitchen was from 1940 and was afraid to use it!

Clean, nice hotel. A little difficult to locate. No restaurant or bar. I felt it was a little overpriced for a queen bed.

The beds were comfortable, we were in a "suite" which had an unusual floor plan making the bathroom door right by the head of one of the beds - not ideal for the person in that bed - but other than that the staff was GREAT and very accommodating, the room was very clean and spacious (unusual for NYC) - there was some street noise but the windows opened which was nice for a breeze.

The Affinia 50 was a good deal. It's in an excellent location, the rooms are large and comfortable.The bathroom is updated but small. The only negative is that the installation of the air conditioning is not complete, and it became quite warm in the room.(March 7th &8th.) Check before reserving; it will be unbearable by late spring. As we were checking out, the lobby, which was rather small, was being filled with many travel carriers of various,animals such as large turtle, kangaroo, porcupine, etc.I was curious as to where they were going to put them. I was a bit uncomfortable with them there.
