The Benjamin - Niujorkas

We were given a quiet, clean room with good lignt. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We found the location central to downtown and subways. Overall, a great choice, and well worth the price.

All was great except the prices in the room minibar and the hotel bar. $8.00 for a beer that you serve yourself and $24.00 for a half bottle of wine is very high.

Perfect location, just a short walk away from the Rockerfeller center & all the main atractions of New York. Surrounded by bars, dinners & restaurants the Benjamin is in a great position for visitors wishing to enjoy a range of eating & night life experiences. Our room was small (typical for NY) but clean & comfortable. Staff were freindly & when our transport back to the airport arrived 30mins early, reacted in double quick time to get our luggage out of storage & into the mini bus. We will stay here again on future visits.

This was my fifth stay plus (I've also recommended to others). The room and bathroom look tired; the corridors shabby and whilst the Concierge was excellent I had to go down to reception and ask for the duty manager after a previous desk request and four follow up phone calls failed to deliver a maintenance visit to get hot water from the bath/shower (in the event it was improved to warm but certainly not hot). Sad, used to love the place - think its now lost it.

finding so much space in any hotel, let alone mid-town NYC, is a dream. i was skeptical about the "pillow menu" - choose from 12 different types - but it made all the difference to a complete comfortable experience.

Only recommendation: ask for higher rooms as the lower rooms (we were on 3rd floor) are loud due to the nearness of a fire station.

Service was excellent, even if they couldn't fix the loud air conditioning problem which seemed to be common to all the rooms. With the lovely pillows we eventually got used to it and slept pretty well overall. Small gripes - didn't receive our first wake-up call and there was no safe in our room. A safe at reception was made readily available to us however. These minor glitches did not detract from what was otherwise a very pleasant stay. Our standard room was an excellent size, the bathroom had Elemis and Aveda products, the hotel was very well located being only a couple of blocks away from Saks of 5th Avenue and surrounding shops and sights including the Rockefeller Centre and Grand Central Station, and the service (front desk, concierge and doormen) was excellent. I did a lot of research on New York hotels before deciding to stay at the Benjamin and was not disappointed with my choice. Very good value for money as it was booked through a 48-hour Hotels.com deal. We would definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

Just a short walk to 3rd and 2nd avenues where there are plenty of restaurants and fun bars. The hotel was very quiet with good air conditioning in the room. Service was wonderful; we needed an iron and it was brought to us a couple of minutes after we called. A lovely small hotel which we highly recommend.

This is an elegant boutique hotel. Excellent price for the type of amenities. Staff couldn't be nicer. Location was perfect. If the rates continue to be reasonable, I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

The hotel was clean, very presentable and in a great part of town. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and they made my 18yr old daughter feel like she was a star with all the attention she got. Regular buses, tourist buses and the subway are extremely close by.

this was our first time staying overnight in NY and the Benjamin made it a wonderful stay. we thought the hotel was excellent, we had heard ny hotel rooms were tiny but not ours. we plan on making more overnight trips to ny and we will always look to stay at the benjamin

From the wonderful smile at the door when you pull up to the always accomodating maid service - location, staff fabulous! Pillow menu is fun too! Will definitely be back!

I had high hopes that the Benjamin would be a great place to stay. The location is awesome but that is about it. I had paid for 2 Rooms one for me and one for my colleague for 3 Nights. When we pulled up to the hotel the front was buried in scaffolding and my first thought was "Great another 3 nights of Jackhammers and drills” the guy at front door was incredibly efficient and nice. Out bags were instantly gone from the car and in the hotel lobby in a flash. The person a registration welcomed us and began to register us. I asked to not be in a room where construction would be not being a disturbance. She said it would not be an issue. I go to my room and it is old, dark and disappointing. The carpet looked 20 years old. The room was an awkward shape and I thought to myself thank god I am on business, if my wife was here I would be embarrassed and in search for another room or another hotel. My colleague said after seeing my room said his was nicer, but because I pay for them both that just added insult to the stay. 1. The elevator in the morning can take 10 minutes and arrive so packed you need to wait another 5 for one you can fit in. 2. There are incredibly expensive bottles of water, and snacks places all over the room. 3 the Mirror in the bathroom was broken and useless. 4. The onsite restaurant was not open, just the bar where the drinks were OK and the food was just OK also. 5. After I finished my burger on Thursday night I was approached by a woman who was in the Naughty Business" "adult entrainment" and was asked if she could help me relax in my room" - My reply was " I am married and my wife is easily 20 times more attractive then you are, good luck tonight. Please do not talk to me again. After being told how much a friend of mine loved this place I was disappointed and will not stay here again. While the people that work here are super nice, this is a 2 1/2 star hotel.

Loved staying at The Benjamin! Staff was delightful; room was great and water pressure in the shower delightful! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to NYC for a stay!

Hotel was great. Construction from 9pm to 5am by the New York public works department was not great.

The employees of this hotel are all very personable, helpful and friendly. The rates were terrific, the location is wonderful, and the size and condition of the room was superb. The restaurant and bar on the ground level were both a pleasure. After all the crazy hustle and bustle of NYC, at the end of the day we came back to a friendly welcome and a peaceful place to rest up for the next day's adventures!

The hotel is comfortable and clean. Housekeeping forgot to make up our room one day, but that was fixed with a relatively quick response and a free round of beers in the bar while we waited. The bar is excellent with good burgers and extremely nice staff.

Friendly staff, excellent location, clean room. I will stay at the Benjamin again during my next visit!! If I had to come up with any issues there were 2: 1. The bed was a bit soft as I'm used to a very hard mattress; and 2. The shower head was low and would be for most men and taller women (I'm 6'). However, great temp. and water pressure!!

It is my second stay at the Benjamin. It feels good to be recognize from the door to the concierge desk.Great location, large and confortable rooms by NY standard. The only minus, and only if you are not an hamburger lover, is the fact that one could expect a more sophisticated restaurant for an hotel of this level..Anyway, there are so many choices in the surroundings.

Great place to stay, staff was great!

This is a modest but exceedingly comfortable, elegant hotel with a most convenient location for anyone (mostly business people) who needs access to the mid-upper east side. This is not the hotel for you if one is looking for a large, busy or amenities-laden hotel. If one just wants a quiet, classy and luxurously comfortable sleep - this is it. Room Service was exceptional.

Very comfortable and very accomodating staff. The original room assigned to us, while beautiful, was right next to the elevator and too noisy for my sound-sesitive husband. The staff worked with us to find a room that was perfect for us.

Location and Service are the two main reasons I like this hotel not only for my business trips but also for more romantic purposes if you have the chance to bring your spouse ( lot of affordable and nice restaurants and bars in the area not to mention museums, parcs and theaters)

The Benjamin was in a great location (midtown and just across the street from a subway station). The room was in good condition, and I found the staff to be especially friendly and helpful. The only problem was that the elevators were extremely slow and one of the two elevators was out-of-order for half of my stay, so I would recommend asking for a room on a low floor so the stairs are an option.

This place seems to be on the decline. Tattered carpets, lamps with broken switches. Failing Internet access. And my room was a construction site -- they're doing work on the facade of the building. Had I paid half as much as I did, I would have been very disappointed.

I stayed at this hotel once before and had a fantastic experience. This time the hotel seemed a little more disorganized and the room a bit less comfortable. Light bulbs were out in the room; the pillows were huge and not too comfortable; the alarm clock blasted us awake because of being set by prior occupant and there was no apparent way to turn it off; our room key was deactivated before checkout time. It's still a good hotel and I would recommend it, but not with rave reviews like last time. Staff is very friendly.

Good midtown location with a subway entrance across the street. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable with nice touches like a window in the bathroom, a pillow menu, bathrobes and blackout shades. We got two great nights of sleep, unusual for us in New York. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We would definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Benjamin in April, 2009. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pillow bar was great. We were happy with the location being close to many sights and convenient to the subway

Overall a great stay. Great service Friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Only negatives were the poor TV reception, and wireless Internet connection ( an additional charge ) which was virtually unuseable.

The Benjamin is a good hotel with small but comfortable rooms, well appointed. The staff goes out of its way to provide service, perhaps too far. They send the requested items, then CALL to see if it has arrived, which is a bit annoying. Just send it, thank you. However, do not expect service on a Sunday night. There are very few staff available; your requests will go unanswered.

Got a great deal through hotels.com. The room needed a few basic maintenance items: leaky faucet, noisy AC. But it was nicely furnished, comfortable bed and roomier than I expected. The staff is first rate.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The room was clean with many things available to guests. The staff was also very helpful. The only thing I would complain about is that on the website it advertised parking..when we got there parking was available but for $55. We would've parked in a parking lot on our own if we knew it would be this expensive. Otherwise this hotel is phenominal!

The Benjamin was a really nice hotel that takes your good night's sleep VERY seriously. Pillow menu that included 12 types of pillows! Roman shades completely blacked out the room so I didn't wake up at the crack of dawn :)

The Benjamin is a lovely small hotel in walking distance to many attractions and shopping. The service was wonderful. The "pillow menu" is great--and free. The room was comfortable with all the ammenities necessary.

We were actually surprised at the number of little things that just weren't quite right (such as no TV reception in the bedroom). In fairness, we didn't complain until we checked out and the management did not have a chance to make things right.

It seemed we had 5 star service in a 4 star hotel. We had a one bed room suite, the price was great considering the Waldorf Astoria is on the opposite corner and was hundreds of dollars more a night. The staff was great, the room was very comfortable, housekeeping seemed to come often, washing dishes in the kitchenete, turing back the bed, of course cleaning in the morning. I just cannot say enough good things about the hotel. I would definately stay there again.

If you have special circumstances, don't be afraid to make a request of the concierge staff at the Benjamin. We found the staff to be warm, friendly, and very accommodating. We were celebrating a dual occasion on the three-day weekend of our stay. The hotel's general manager was very generous to us, and we experienced an incredible dream-come-true weekend at the Benjamin! The room was lovely. It was a superior suite on an upper floor. We felt like royalty! Every single staff member from the doorman to housekeeping was genuinely out-going and accommodating. As a native New Yorker, I'm pleased to know that the Benjamin is providing an excellent example of New York hospitality at its finest to out-of-towners who may see New York as unfriendly.
