San Gallo Palace Hotel - Florence

We really enjoyed the San Gallo Palace Hotel. Our only complaint was that it was a long way from the town center and the train station. The taxi ride was about 12 Euro. Though it could be walked, most would find it very inconvenient.

Excellent hotel and value for the dollar. After 4 nights here, I'd highly recommend it. It's a short bus ride from the Duomo and all the sites.

Not only was it clean and comfortable but the staff was very helpful. The Breakfast Buffet was the best of our trip. The hotel bar was also very casual and reasonably priced for "Vino and casual Meals".

The hotel is only about 15 -20 minute walk from the station, a tip is to ask for the road via san gallo which will lead you to a busy junction, which you have to cross to get to the hotel. The room we had faced the back gardens and was very tranquil, after a hard days sightseeing. The power shower with 5 powerful jets was a very pleasant surprise. One thing the room didn't have was an iron and upon request was told that clothes needing ironing can be handed into reception in the morning and collected in the afternoon pressed free of charge, we didn't realise this until the last day! There are a couple of restaurants located close to the hotel, which were recommended to us by the reception and they truly were superb, and reasonably priced compared to the tourist restaurants. For pizza lovers there is a restaurant called Edi House about 10 minutes away, and this is a first class restaurant which locals frequent.

The San Gallo Palace is classy and convenient to the historic center of Florence. After a gentle walk we found ourselves awestruck with the historic sights of the Duomo, the Baptistery, and surrounding museums. Our room was peaceful when the window was shut; filled with the sounds of Florence traffic when they were open. We had a nice roomy bath and a comfortable room. One thing I was unprepared for was that none of the hotel baths have wash cloths. The complimentary breakfast had a nice variety. Cappacino was served by a friendly gentleman each morning. Desk clerks were friendly and quite willing to help with our requests and inquiries. While the description of the facility indicates that internet service is available, it is not complimentary but has to be purchased and is quite pricey. I highly recommend the San Gallo Palace and would stay here again if I should be fortunate enough to return to Florence.

This hotel was fine for a short visit to Florence. It is about a 25 minute walk from the Train Station and about 20 minutes straight into the city to the Duomo, so since we like to be outside the centre it suited us. There is not much around the hotel that is open at night though, so eat before heading back. The hotel itself looks quite nice, but the rooms are a little tired, though very comfortable. The ceilings are very high making the rooms seem even more spacious than they are. The breakfast and staff were excellent.

The San Gallo is situated about a 20 minute walk to the center of Florence and was selected because the distance from the tourist areas suits my travel style -- which is premised on preference for significant walking -- about 20-30 minutes walk to every major attraction. Hotel is modern and recently upgraded. Room has well planned layout, is very clean, and quiet. Bathroom was brand new and modern, and expansive by european standards. Good closet space. A nice benefit is a small in-room fridge large enough to allow other items bought from outside. Hotel staff are exceptionally accommodating and helpful with directions and service. Public transport is readily available. The only downsides, as with most European hotels under a couple hundred dollars per night are: the beds are hard by american standards, and while each room HAS real adjustable air conditioning (both hot and cool), the hotel controls the master switch that is needed to allow guests to turn it on and off -- and spring is not a season during which guest are allowed to control the temperature. Given Italians seem to like the heat on well into spring, the rooms can get a bit warm at night -- windows do open, but then you risk an unbearable mosquito attack. I still do not understand why hotels not only don't give free in-room internet access, but they don't even give it in the lobby, and the in-room price is outrageous (stick to internet cafes).

I could not believe what a find this hotel was. The promotional pictures and description did not do it justice. The hotel staff were courteous and very helpful. The room spotless, roomy, and comfortable. We overlooked an interior courtyard, which was quiet and calming after a long day of touring. The breakfasts, which were included, were lovely with a diverse assortment of fresh foods. The location was great, a little bit of a hike from the train station , but very convenient to all the major sights. All I can say is try it I am sure you will love it like we did.

The San Gallo Palace was an excellent value for money choice for us. The staff were exceptionally polite and accomodating. We chose this hotel mainly for its accessability by car, but unfortunately the directions were less than helpful. We understood that the parking was at the hotel, but it's at a public car park in a nearby street. We arrived late at night and after checking in at the hotel we were given directions to the car park which took us quite a distance around a one way system. When we finally found it, we couldn't find the allocated space and had to go back to the hotel. As we were tired and irritable at this point, the receptionist offered to have the car parked for us. We also understood that the parking was free but it costs 10 euros per day. Also for parking the car and collecting it when we were leaving there is a 20 euro valet charge. All this said we found the standard of the hotel to be excellent and it only takes approximately 15 minutes to walk to the centre of Florence. There are a few restaurants in the area but these a few and far between. The breakfast was good and set us up for the morning.I would definitely recommend the San Gallo Palace and would stay there again. Florence is VERY expensive, so be prepared!!

Outstanding hotel, perfect location and lovely breakfast service. Can't say enough about it!

Even though we are tourists ourselves, we enjoyed this hotel about a 20 minute walk from the crowds around the thick of things. There were 2 great local restaurants almost around the corner.

Nice hotel in central Florence - Good value and fairly easy to find. Very helpful front desk staff - with directions, places to eat etc. Room was nice - clean with a nice big bathroom - plenty hot water - Traditional styling in the room - nice balcony - no complaints - breakfast was basic but adequate - nice friendly waitresses. Great location - plenty sites to see locally - buildings etc - lots of good italian restaurants in local area - centre about 15 mins walk away - recommend Matti - great lasagne !!! Overall good hotel for the price paid !!

A nice hotel with good parking facilities. The superior room was to a good standard but a little drab at the price.

I loved the San Gallo. It was extremely comfortable, clean, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I came with my friend on an 8-day trip to Italy and this was by far the best hotel we stayed in- we called it our treat for the vacation. Being from New York, we are used to walking a lot, and very used to public transportation so the fact that the hotel was rather "far" from the center of Florence, it didn't bother us. For those who are either familiar with the city and know how to get around or those who don't mind hoofing it a bit for nicer accommodations, this is the perfect hotel

with a name like San Galo Palace I had higher expectiations (probably unfairly). the Hotel was very clean, staff was great, and had most of the usual hotel features found in a business class hotel. This was the first hotel in years that I had to pay for internet access (10 euros a day for wired access- wi-fi was unusable) and the same thing for parking (10 euros a day). Parking was a two block walk in a rather scary neighborhood. If you don't have drive i'd suggest public transporation. Drivers in Florence are insane. The hotel is also at a very busy intersection and tends to be noisy.

God beliggenhed, ca. 20 min. gang til centrum og hovedbanegården. Vores værelse (superior) var stort og rummeligt, men badeværelset dog ret lille. Morgenmaden var ok/typisk for Italienske hoteller. Meget venligt og engelsktalende personale.

Hotellet lå lidt nord for alle turist attraktionerne, men det tog kun cirka 15 min at gå til centrum, så beliggenheden var fin. Hotellet var fint og værelset var perfekt - ingen klager herfra. Morgenmaden var også fin, så alt i alt var det et af de bedre hoteller jeg har boet på. Og servicen var i top! Ville klart vælge dette hotel en anden gang.

très bon hôtel : accueil chaleureux, personnel prévenant, petit dejeuner copieux et de qualité. Je conseillerai cet hôtel pour un séjour à Florence. De plus il est à dix minutes du centre historique. Chambre silencieuse que du positif....

Very good quality hotel for the money spend. The hotel is ten min. from downtown, so it was nice coming to a quieter quarter after being in the center all day. There is a little, nice park behind the hotel, and good restaurants around the corner.

Hôtel correct. Parking possible à proximité; une carte fournie par l'hôtel permet 10 euros par 24heures. Accueil très aimable. L'hôtel est juste un peu loin de la ville; compter 15 à 20 minutes de marche.
