Apex International Hotel - Edinburgas

Thouroughly enjoyed our stay, hotel perfectly situated opposite many bars and resturants and only a 10 minute walk to Princes Street. The rooms very clean and facilities were excellent, including the indoor pool and sauna. Without a doubt will return again next year. Recommended. 5****

While upon arrival, this hotel initially looks like a pretty posh place for the price - once you take a closer look you can see that it really needs some TLC. The restaurant and bar look trendy but decor is cheap. Our room was in desperate need of a good paint job - the walls were badly scarred and scuffed. We were also missing shampoo and lotion. After staying multiple nights in their sister hotel a few doors down (Apex City) we were a little surprised by the lack of attention to detail.

We were delighted with our accommodation. The view of Edinburgh castle was stunning. Grassmarket has a contintental feel about it and during the festival the area is buzzing. There is also a convenient car park beneath the hotel. You will not be disappointed.

Very pleasant stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast and also dinner in Bistro. Room gave fine view towards castle. Only two negatives. 1. Room was quite large, but contained two very large double beds. Result - there was hardly any free space in the room. 2. The Grassmarket gets very noisy in the evenings and through most of the night. The sound insulation was quite inadequate and sleep was difficult.

The hotel is situated in a very nice part of town, which is a bonus. However, the overall cleanliness of the room, the bedding in particular, left much to be desired.

The hotel staff were okay but my room was very bad. There was no control over the temperature (very warm), there was marks on some of the furniture, the bathroom had bad lighting could see anything in the shower and the drainage was bad there was bits coming up the sing plug hole. Never going back. The only thing i could see that it had going for the hotel was it was very central and was close to all the fringe shows I was attending.

Good central location, very clean rooms, comfortable beds. Staff are helpful, good dining fascilities with wonderful views of the castle. Older guests or kids may want to specify a bath rather than a wet room.

We went for a supierior room as it was my partners birthday. The room was clean & a good size. The room service was excellent with the food being cooked to perfection. HOWEVER the noise from outside was unbearable! I sleep like a log but even I was woken from 5am onwards with noise all moring till we left. We did complain but all they would do was change rooms which did us no favours for the already bad night sleep. Filled in the hotel feedback form but no reply. If you can;t sleep during an air raid then stay away or stay with the standard rooms.

This hotel was pretty much what I expected and its location was as well. The hotel restaurants aren't a good value, but the neighborhood is full of good options and it is very close to the heart of the top tourist attractions.

Very disappointed with the service at this hotel. It was a Saturday and they were busy but we were informed that there was parking and when we arrived after a long journey there was no parking left and we had to go to a parking station some distance away and I left some bags with my wife and I had to lug the rest from the parking station and neither my wife or myself were offered any assistance with this. A GOOD hotel maintains service in quiet and busy times. Overall attitdue by most staff indifferent as best.

Whilst the room was superficially good, I noted a few problems: 1) The bathroom was very dark 2) The rooms were to hot, with no air conditioning 3) Some poor finishing, such as peeling paint in the bathroom. 4) 2 elevators, which were exceedingly slow 5) The exterior of the hotel, may indeed, be the ugliest building in Edinburgh The location: Whilst very convenient, there is construction immediately outside the hotel doors, which created a significant amount of noise and dust.

We had a great stay. It is in the center of things. Cleanliness was good which is the main thing I look for in a hotel. There are a lot of places to get food near by. We will return if we go back to Edinburgh.

with windows the length and depth of the external wall, the rooms had a breathtaking view of the castle. the ambience changed as night drew in and the castle lit up. For those of you who never open the curtains, however, there is plenty going on inside the room with boutique style furnishings and a gloriously enormous bed!

One of if not the best view of the castle from our bedroom window. The hotel is ideally placed for walking around the city with superb restaurants and pubs a stone throw away. The hotel is showing little signs of wear but this did not detract from the excellent service we received. A leisurely swim on sunday morning with a wonderful breakfast starting a fantastic day in the city. Highly recommend hotel for being in the heart of the city

The location of the hotel is excellent. We could see the castle from our bedroom window. It was a 5 min walk to the royal mile (where all of the tourist things are) however it was just off the super busy roads so that our hotel itself was very quiet and comfortable. The hotel itself was in excellent condition, very clean and new. The one down side were the beds - they could have been a little more comfortable.

I requested to have a non-smoking room but were given a room that's located within the smoker section and a room that is permitted for smokers. The pillows also smelled like smoke and for someone with asthma this room is unacceptable.

We stayed three nights at the Apex on our recent trip to England and Scotland. We came to the hotel by rented auto and had an incredibly difficult time finding it. The hotel directions were not clear and there are one way streets in Edinburgh that make finding the hotel extremely challenging. The first room we were assigned was very noisy with lots of street traffic. They accommodated our request for a change of room but that one was noisy as well. The parking area is small and after going out one day we were forced to park at a nearby public lot at the cost of 16 pounds per day. Edinburgh is lovely but when we stay here again we will stay out of the city and commute in by public transport.

The hotel is at a great location but the rooms are small and the atmosphere is hectic during the festival we heard there was some overbooking The bed was not 100% clean which was un-expected We were kindly upgraded which was good, because the is the highest price I have ever paid for a hotel in Europe The gym is fine and so is the pool The breakfast is great as well as the staff who serves it - reception staff is less convincing.

The Apex Int'l in Grassmarket area was a great place for us to stay. It has a beautiful view of the castle, especially from it's 5th floor restaurant. You can walk anywhere from here in just minutes.It's spotless wth very nice sized rooms. There's a nice outdoor patio and good lounge area to relax in at night.

Room was ok, but the comfort of the beds left something to be desired. Breakfast was abhorently expensive, especially considering the price of the room as it was.

This hotel is on a wonderful street and within walking distance to everything. It looks out at the castle and the view from the top restaurant is really amazing. The room was comfortable but the plumbing pipes made a horrible clanging noise. We reported this and hopefully the management will be able to fix it. Also- the pool is a bit small but it's Edinburgh, so you're not there to swim.

I liked the hotel though I feel compelled to mention a few things that could be improved: The window didn't seal properly and could hear lots of street noise at night. Squeeky hall would let you know if anyone was approaching. Bed confort was great, but instead of 2 beds one would have been enough and use the extra space to make the room more of a living space (couch and table perhaps) rather than a mere sleeping space.

This hotel was in a great location to explore Edinburgh. The rooms were large, clean and modern and more comfortable than your typical European hotel room. The hotel staff were very helpful and accomodating.

Great hotel with great location.

The Apex International (do not confuse this review with the Apex City which is one building away; I don't know anything about the Apex City Hotel) is in a great location yet in a quiet part of the city. It is not near the main shopping avenue; you'll need to cab there. There are great restaurants and pubs right in this square; I highly recommend dinner at "Maison Blue". The view of Edinburgh castle is truly amazing - just look up. The hotel is very clean. Room doors close automatically behind you and tend to slam loudly. The concierge was a huge help and very happy to do so, even calling a restaurant for us to make a reservation. I highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel does have a good location, not far from Princess Street Shopping and the castle. Room was of decent size...overall nice hotel. I will admit that for the $$ I was expecting something a little nicer.

Die Lage ist sehr gut, weil zentral und fußläufig kann man zahlreiche Pubs und Restaurants erreichen. Die Sicht aus dem Frühstücksraum direkt auf die Burg ist super. Der Rest ist eher durchschnittlich. Z.B. Badausstattung auf dem Stand der 90er Jahre, Sauna ist keine finnische Sauna sondern ein laues Lüftchen. Wer im Hotel (auch) Wellness-Urlaub machen will, wird enttäuscht.

Vi reiste på jente tur . Bodde tre jenter på rommet. Store senger, god plass, kaffe og te på rommet og etter hele dag med shopping, kunne vi slappe av i svømmebasseng :) Perfekt beliginhet med fantastisk oversikt over Edinburgh Castle.

l'albergo è in un'ottima posizione, proprio sotto il castello, con tanti ristoranti vicini. solo in camera non c'era asciugacapelli e c'era una quantità di shampoo e docciaschiuma insufficiente per tre persone, cosa che ci ha lasciato perplessi essendo un albergo 4stelle.

Perfekt läge nedanför Edinburgh castle på Grassmarket. Nära till sevärdheter, turistbussar, shopping. Hotellets standard som 4stjärningt hotell är sämre än ett Svenskt 4 stjärningt hotell men intrycket var fräscht, trevlig personal, väl tilltaget rum där man lätt sov 2 personer i varje enkelsäng (vi sov 4 personer i samma rum). Restaurangeng har perfekt utsikt mot Edinburgh castle. Poolen var i verkligheten mindre än det såg ut på bild (ca 5ggr 10m) men även den fräsch. Barn var ej tillåtna på spaavdelningen så den vet jag inget om. Jag kan varmt rekommendera hotellet.

Hotellet har ett bra läge och rummen är stora och fina. Badrummen är också mycket bra. Städningen var däremot klart undermålig.

Fint hotell med svært sentral beliggenhet i Edinburgh på Grassmarket rett nedenfor Edinburgh Castle. Her er man i gangavstand fra absolutt alt.

Godt hotel beliggende yderst centralt. Vi benyttede os på intet tidspunkt af de offentligetransportmidler udover til/fra lufthavn. Værelserne var af høj standard dog en anelse for varme. Morgenmaden lidt for dyrt; kr. 10 GBP pr/person.

Cet Hotel est très bien situé dans la vieille ville. Les chambres sont spacieuses et calmes malgré des fenêtres qui devraient être renouvelées. Mais pour ce qui est du côté intégration dans le style de cette rue ... c'est loupé, moche dans le paysage et c'est bien dommage. Nombreux restaurants et pub de l'autre côté de la rue.

Kjempeflott hotel med store flotte rom i pent design og valg av farger. Greit å finne frem fra flyplassen. Sentralt beliggende og fine resturanter rett utenfor.

Hyggelig service og praktisk beliggenhet.

Sentral i Grassmarket, kort avstand til puber, restauranter og handlegater. Rommene er bra men små, kun en lenestol og en skrivepult i tillegg til sengene.

Rommet var fint nok, men det var utrolig varmt. En liten bordvifte hjalp lite. Det virket også som om det var varme på i gulvet

Flott utsikt til Edinburgh Castle, nydelig restaurant med samme utsikt. Flott beliggenhet på Grassmarket i gamlebyen. Veldig fornøyd med servicen og hele oppholdet!

Rommene er trange og det var plassert to dobbeltsenger, men kun en stol og en kontorstol. Ingen steder å plassere koffertene på enn i den ledige sengen. Løse fliser på badegulv og ubekvem dusj i badekar med glassvegg halve badekar lengden. Skapdører har løse henglser og spiss stålfjær stakk opp av kontorstol rygg.

Fantastic hotel with excellet location, we were also able to find a parking space for our vehicle, in hotel car park located at the rear. Stayed for 3 nights would definatly recommend to other visitors to the city... Staff extremly helpful... Castle and Old town within throwing distance...

Prisvärt hotel "mitt i smeten". Gångavstånd till det mesta. Parkering i hotellet. Trevliga, stora rum. Litet kaosartat vid frukosten, annars ett mycket trevligt hotell. Poolen är givetvis ett plus, om man har barn med sig.

Svært sentral beliggenhet, god standard, imøtekommende betjening. Gode møtefasiliteter for små møter. Godt utgangspunkt for å utforske Edinburgh til fots. Rullestolbrukere må være oppmerksom på trepper som gjør tilgjengeligheten noe vanskelig.

We loved this hotel! It was clean, comfortable and had a great location with fantastic view of the castle. The beds were comfortable and with cosy down comforters. There's also a square just outside the hotel (Grassmarket) which was very nice. Would definitely go back when I visit Edinburgh again.

Det er et dejligt hotel, og der manglede ikke noget for vores vedkommende (skulle dog blot være, at vi ikke kunne finde ud af bruseren, men vi tog så blot karbad i stedet for). Morgenmaden på hotellet var ikke inkluderet i vores pris for overnatning, og vi synes den var temmelig dyr (næsten 90 kr. pr. person)...der var ikke noget specielt ved morgenmaden, så den var ikke prisen værd.

Hôtel très bien situé sur GrennMarket,idéal pour visité Edimbourg à pied. Les bus touristiques s'arrêtent devant l'hôtel. Un large choix de pub et restaurants à proximité de l'hôtel. Le Personnel est extêmement aimable et serviable, bien que non bilingue. Le confort de la chambre très correct, Pour la propreté rien à re-dire Par contre le confort de la salle de bain, ne correspond pas à un 4étoiles. Pas de toilettes séparées, et pas de rangements pour le linge toilette. Aucun décor, c'est tristounet ! Mais c'est le seul point non favorable que nous avons trouvé. Côté restauration, le buffet du matin n'est lui non plus pas digne d'un 4 étoiles ! mais la vue sur le château compense.

Helt igennem et super godt hotel, der ligger lige midt i den gamle bydel og lige overfor Edinburgh Castle. Tæt på shopping, kultur og restauranter. cirka en 20-25 minutters kørsel fra lufthavnen, og virkelig nemt at komme til/fra hotel med bil når vi tog til andre områder i Skotland. Vi fik super god morgenmad på hotellets restaurant, hvor vi havde udsigten til Edinburgh Castle - toast, buffet, bacon og æg - jeg tror det kostede 20 pund pr. dag, men så var vi også "mætte":)

Mycket bra frukost, men dyrt när det inte ingick i priset. Frukostför halva priset på café i närheten. Rent och snyggt, trevlig och uppmärksam personal.

Hotellet ligger ved foten av slottet. Var der i påsken og i forhold til den verste turitsperioden var dette en perfekt tid å besøke byen. Hotellet ligger i umiddelbar nærhet til alt, pluss en meget bra restaurant på toppen med utsikt til slottet om kvelden, den bør prøves

Vi är otroligt nöjda med vår vistelse med Apex International. Det är sällan som bilder stämmer överrens med verkligheten. Men det gjorde det verkligen här. Vi bodde i ett superior rum och hade den magnifika utsikten över slottet! Personalen var mycket hjälpfull och vänlig, bra servicw hwlt enkelt. Hotellet är centralt men ändå charmigt med närheten till pubar, ej på stora turistgatan vilket är ett plus. Frukosten var lite tråkig, men inte värre än den standard det är på engelsk mat.. Det fanns en mysig pool bstu och litet gym som vi nyttjade. Rummet kändes det inte som de dammsög var dag, så ej full pott där, men de städa och bädda och vi blev nöjda. Vi kommer absolut att anväda oss av Apex kedjan igen!

Fantastisk service, en del mycket gullig personal och en del vanliga, men alla oerhört servieinriktade. Jag har nog aldrig varit med om något liknande, både baren, matstället och receptionen.

Chambre pour 4 grande et confortable.Très bien équipée ( sèche-cheveux, table à repasser, bouilloire). Hotel calme avec piscine, sauna et salle de gym et surtout idéalement placé au centre d'Edinburgh avec superbe vue sur le chateau.

OK hotel men vil du have ro så vælg et værelse væk fra gade. Fin udsigt fra morgenmadrestuarantren og herligt man kan brygge en kop te på værelset

la salle de bains n'est absolument pas une salle de bains d'un 4 étoiles : très petite , mal éclairée , aération qui fait un bruit épouvantable et ne correspond pas au confort de la chambre qui elle était agréable et très confortable.

Despite plenty of staff around at breakfast, the quality of service was poor: long wait for table due to delys in clearing tables; 15 min wait for tea/coffee; half hour wait for cooked breakfast. Head waiter should reflect on the difference between being busy and looking busy.
