Classic english hotel, beautiful inside and nice rooms

I have stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels in the centre of London which were cheaper and offered better quality. A typical terrace type hotel, very small 'doubele bedorrom scuffed wallpaper, small lift, just generaly a 'tird' hotel.

Room very small. Friendly staff. QUiet and Good access

The locations is great close to Tube. On the Piccadilly line from Heathrow. The room we had was spacious for London.

Ok the hotel is in a brilliant location and is not that expensive. However nowhere does it say that the hotel is old and down at heel on the inside. that you could cope with so long as it was clean and comfortable I suppose. But the triple room we were in had a bathroom in the space of the bay window, the showere was a hair washing hose that if you were any taller than 5ft 3 you couldn't fit under. We asked to be moved and we were to a better room with better bathroom but truly awful beds. Three narrow wobbly fishfinger style singles. The worst bit of the whole thing though was the noise. The hotel is next door to a nightculb and the walls are paper thin. You cannot sleep through it in certain rooms in the hotel. Awful awful awful. If you knew these things in advance you could make a judgement call - good location not too expensive, oh but its uncomfortable, shabby and NOISY BEYOND BELIEF. Also there was no duty manager and the staff told me that they never know when he will be around. So who runs this hotel? And I was pleasant to the staff as it was not their fault but I was so annoyed. Also payment for the room had already been taken when we checked out so you cant even negotiate a reduction ir indeed ask for your money back. Very Poor and this site should not include this hotel!

Yes, the room was very small, but it was exceptionally well apportioned and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. It's a graceful and gracious little hotel in a shockingly nice area (roll out of bed for the V&A).

Checked in at 23:30 reception fully manned & staff very helpful. Single room was a reasonable size, not huge but adequate & spotlessly clean. The location was ideal for Museums & Albert Hall

Great location and friendly staff. Only major complaint is the bed was very hard and TV channels weren't very good. High priced internet access in the rooms.

Booked the hotel due to location and at last minute. Does not represent value for money. Receptionist was very helpful and definitely the best thing about the hotel - along with the fact that it is just a 5 minute walk to South Ken tube and the museums. Decor is tacky, dated and tired and the place lacks any personaility. My room was not ready by 1pm - having specifically dropped my bag off much earlier and being told to return at 1pm. Room was cold at night and the hotel water tricked out of the shower in the morning. I wont be returning.

The location is great . located near the South Kensington tube station .. can walk to most any restaurant or museums or Harrods .. the room was very small but it was just for one person so thats typical. but my window opened up to a school down below so if you want quiet .. this is not the place for you .. but later that night they do turn off the flood lights on the playground ..so a quick visit i think would be just fine and im sure they have other rooms that dont face out to the playground .i would stay there again

I recently stayed at Gainsborough Hotel, in London's affluent Kensington area. For the price the Hotel was outstanding. Loved the location: it was within walking distant from shops, restaurants, the underground,and museums. All of the staff were exceedingly helpful, except for one who was very rude to me at breakfast time. However the manager promisd to correct the problem. Overall, I would stay here again.

Overall I would recommend the Gainsborough. I would recommend booking a deluxe room, as the standard is very tiny, just enough room to walk around the bed. The staff was helpful and polite. The location is great- block and a half from the tube station and there are a huge variety of restaurants within walking distance.

Mattress very uncomfortable. Front staff NOT helpful, but room service attendants very prompt and friendly. Breakfast EXTREMELY expensive. I walked around the corner and found numerous affordable places to eat. Room VERY small, barely room for one. Shower also VERY small.

Rooms were in terrible condition and far smaller than it looked in photos... Our toilet did not work... The beds were old and extremely uncomfortable... A lot of banging and creeking in the night... Could not regulate the temperature (either too hot or too cold)... Staff were very unhelpful... I could go on.

Horrible evening staff; bad communication skills and no sense of customer satifaction. Don't bother with the room service food, the hamburger was the best choice and it didn't look like food, had to send it back. We reserved two rooms for our family and they were on the ground floor and the fourth floor! Another family was also separated by multiple floors. The ground floor room had no windows. I had to maintain the air conditioning by cleaning the filter myself and installing the outlet through the hole in the plexiglass window. The toilet clogged and the night staff simply said that he didn't know if/where the plunger was and I would have to wait until a maintenance man could be called in the morning. Small rooms.

Although my primary purpose for being in London was business, I greatly enjoyed the convenience of this hotel for visiting museums and parks. Compared to other hotels in which I've stayed in the general area, this one is superior. Moreover, the hotel staff was helpful and very nice. The only "debits" are that (1) they don't have a longer-term rate for internet access, and $30/day is a bit steep; and (2) you have to watch for a good rate -- otherwise, it's rather expensive.

This was a good hotel with a great location, easy to jump on the underground or get a bus around London. Our room had three twin bed, that were not all that comfortable and the only window was in the bathroom. I think for the price it is a good buy, quiet location.

The nightclub which previous guests complained about is no longer in operation. Rooms are small, as expected. even with the upgrade, but pleasant. We did not have breakfast in the hotel so no comment on that. My only complaint is that several people on the front desk were not knowledgeable about basic questions about London - such as "how do I get to the tube", and specifics on neighborhood restaurants. Others were most helpful. Location is very good. Overall we were pleased.

Stayed three nights while siteseeing in London. The hotel is close to the South Kensington underground which made it convenient. About a 10 mins walk. We had a room with 2 twin beds which was just okay. No down comforters, pillows needed upgrading. On the smaller size but we were prepared after reading all the reviews. The lift was extremely small-so we took the stairs. Upon arrival we were offered a refreshment, which was a nice touch. Limited restaurant choices in the area but a few places for picking up refreshments for your room. The front area was clean and somewhat charming but the furniture could be refinished for a better first impression. Staff helpful and accomodating. Not sure about the 4 star rating but know that most rooms are on the smaller side in older hotels, period. Bathroom adequate size with tub/shower, tile floor and small sink. Never a problem with hot water. We felt very comfortable walking in the area after dark and did not have any troubles finding the hotel.

We used 2 rooms in our group: Advantage: The location is very convenient: close to an undergound station, many restaurants, shops near by. Disadvantages: 1. Depends on the rooms, there is NO room to move around in some rooms. 2. There is no place to put soap, shampoo...etc in the shower (except on the floor). 3. A school playground is right next to it. So the room is noisy most of the time during the day. 4. Next door basement is a bar/club. It is noisy at night until 2 or 3 am. But this can be a plus for young people.

Bo ikke her. Det er det værste stedet jeg har bodd på. Har reist mye til London i mine 25år som yrkesaktiv men aldri opplevd maken. Hotellet er lite, rommene er små, badene er ikke eksisterende. Noen rom har kun tilgang via trapp. GRUSOMT.

Litet rum. Det gick knappt att gå runt sängen. Dubbelsängen kunde gott ha två madrasser och var sitt lakan.

Das Zimmer war klein, aber hübsch eingerichtet. Ausser dem Wasserkocher war alles einwandfrei. Nachts ist es verhältnismässig ruhig, so dass man sich gut erholen kann. Das Frühstücksbuffet war super!

le rapport qualité prix est très bon. C'est un hôtel de charme et il est très bien situé pour passer un week-end de loisir.

Mannm kann jeder Feder inm bett spühren und zwar in alle Zimmern!!!
