Best Western Abbey Hotel - Batas (Bath)

Ideally located for everything central when coming for daughter's wedding: Guildhall, Roman Baths, shops. Tricky parking so come by train or taxi! Very pleasant and helpful staff especially the acting night porter, James.

We purposely booked a room in the center of town so that we could walk everywhere. The Abbey Hotel absolutely is in the center of town - and as a consequence was very noisy. Long after midnight it was still quite loud. The service was quite good. When we complained about the first room we were given (on the ground floor right on the street), they very politely changed us to a more suitable room.

On arrival we found the Hotel had no car park and was told to use the car park around the corner which seems to get a little busy.Paid £12 for all day.The staff were all very good and always had a smile on their faces.The room was good and the breakfast good.

We (my sister and I) stayed here to attend a hen weekend so only really used the hotel to sleep and get ready. It was perfect, and the room exceeded expectations. It was spacious, airy and light. Brilliant.

This is a nice hotel situated right in the heart of Bath, everything is within short walking distance. The rooms were cleaned every day and we thought the beds were most comfortable. We stayed for a long weekend which was more expensive than in during the week. Breakfast was not included in the price and did seem rather expensive, although tea and coffee facilities were provided in the rooms. Would stay again, a great location!

You can't beat this location in Bath. Around the corner from the Abbey, in sight of the Parade Gardens and Sally Lunn's, and just a block away from a car park. I am usually not bothered by noise, but the birds that inhabit the rooftops outside our window kept us awake, as did the pub goers on the street. The shower had close to no water pressure, which made getting shampoo out of my hair a chore! The location was ideal, though.

The Bath Abbey Hotel is located a block away from the cathedral and a short walk from the train station, which makes it excellent for touring the central city as well as catching a train to surrounding areas. The rooms tended to be warm and no a/c was available, but the fans provided cooled it down adequately. The updated bathroom was comfortable and well appointed. We would happily stay here again.

The Abbey would have been adequate, although not great, except for the birds that shrieked and squawked loudly day and night. We could not get a good night's sleep.

My dad and I stayed in a twin room on the first floor between the 3rd & 4th of May. The location of the hotel is excellent, 5mintes walk from train station, 30secs from City sightseeing bus stop and 2 minutes from Bath Abbey. Nearby the hotel is the famous Sally's Lunn restaurant. The room (Hasset) we stayed in is quite spacious. It is on the back side of the hotel so we didnt find it noisy at night given how close Abbey hotel is to the nearby bars and restuarnats. The service of the staff was also very helpful and responded quickly to our requests. Breakfast was pretty good consisting of continental breakfast (croissant, chocolat du pain, cereal, yogurt, juice, milk) as well as a selection of cooked meals (sausage, scrambled egg, bacon etc). The only downside was that for some reason our room was very chilly even during the day. Maybe it was because we couldnt get much sunlight into the room. In the end I had to ask the staff for a fan heater to keep myself warm. Also I was a bit disapointed that there was no desk lamp which made doing some work in the room a bit more difficult.

If you want a hotel in a great position then this is the one for you. However, the beds (only replaced last year) are very soft and uncomfortable - cost for bank holiday weekend was a bit high for a 2-3 star hotel.

Arrived early and with no sleep and asked if we could check in early. We were told no, as well as anyone else who asked. We walked around for some time and we came back and passed out in their tea time area. The room was small and outdated. The bathroom had linoleum I hadn't seen in a house since the 70's. The furniture was cheap and crappy. The tv was a very small, maybe 12" old style tube tv, though I did see a nicer tv in another room during cleaning. Maybe this is just the hotels.com room. It was extremely hot in the room, so we opened the windows and there was a small fan in the room. No A/C. We were awakened several times from noise on the street because we had to open our windows. The floors creaked horribly bad and when anyone moved in the room next to us or above us, it woke us up. The location is good, though doesn't make-up for the price. The mattress was exactly like the $99.00 one I bought when I needed something cheap to sleep on and could feel ever spring in it. It's not a three star hotel and I think you will be disappointed at any price you pay. It is realistically a 1 and a half star hotel and if you can be happy with that and a good location, then you will be fine. Staff was ok, but not at all warm like the rest of the people we met in England. The hotel website states there is parking around the corner for 12 pounds a day. This is true, but you must be there at exactly 8:00 a.m. in the morning to accomplish this. So either my wife or I had to wake up early and go down the street to feed the meter at exactly 8:00 a.m. in order to avoid a ticket, which they were giving.

Friendly staff ,good breakfast ,ideal position for seeing Bath all main sites with in walking distance . Only 10 ? max minutes walk from the railway station . I would stay here again

Hotel is center of town, 5 min away from Roman Bath & Thermal Spa house. Great resturants next door. Friendly staff. Breakfast £7.50 extra per person. Has wifi, but not working when we went. Finding room is triky (always got lost when finding where room was), but building well kept. Bath tub the size of a casket. Room large (considering the fact how small rooms can be in europe). Has beer for £1-2 downstairs, which is unique. Very good experience.

For the money, its a good value as it is centrally located right near the Abbey. Beware, parking will cost 12 pounds for the day, but you need only pay between 0800 and 1600.

Close to everything in Central Bath (although that did mean a lot of street noise on our first night). We felt the rooms were very warm for mid March. Small rooms. Fine for a weekend, might get claustrophobic if staying any longer

My wife & I have stayed at the Abbey hotel on 3 previous occasions, the most recent being in 2007. When booking I thought it had been listed as 4* las time & this time only 3*. The restaurant is a sorry shadow of what it had been on my last visit, a buffet breakfast used to dominate but now is shoved in a corner by the kitchen door next to a toasting machine. Our room, was spacious, but smelt damp & the bathroom was not very clean & had a bad dip in the floor. The young staff were very pleasant but need to be a little more professional, (a lot of larking around in the reception area) This was certainly not the level of hotel that it has been.

I was a bit worried that such a cheap hotel in the centre of Bath would be a bad idea - but how wrong I was! The hotel is a few minutes walk from the station, in the best position in Bath - five steps from Sally Lunn's, and a minute's walk from the cathedral and Roman baths. The staff were very friendly, the room comfortable and clean, and the hotel was warm. I will return very soon!

Friendly and helpful staff. Cosy feeling to the hotel and an excellent position for exploring this delighful city. We found the drinks in the bar rather expensive. There was a very good choice for breakfast and was of a high standard. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in bath at the Abbey Hotel and would highly recommend it.

The hotel was in an excellent location to get around Bath and the staff were really helpful and extremely friendly.

we arrived late to Bath and were happy to find several restaurants right outside the Hotel door, as well as convenient parking for the car. Close to the Roman Baths and the center of town.

There is nothing glamorous about this hotel, but the location is perfect. Everything is on your doorstep, Roman baths, the Abbey, shops, bars. The room was small but adequate, clean and comfy with a large bathroom. There is no parking but the long stay car park is a 1 minute walk round the corner and costs £12 ~24hrs. Good value for money, considering Bath is very pricey.

Excellent location in the heart of the city

There are a lot of georgian buildings now masquerading as 3* hotels in the city. This is one of the best value in an enviable position. It is certainly an improvement on the hotel I worked in as a student 34 years ago, but I fear some of the furnishings are the same.

this hotel is ideal for visitng abth as it is central for all.There is no car parking at the hotel so you have to park at a car park nearby this will cost £12 per day if parking all day

The location is probably the major reason we chose the hotel, it is right in the centre of the city, meaning that we didn't have to use the car all weekend as everything was within walking distance. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly without being anything special. It's expensive, but having stayed in Bath several times before, this seems to be par for the course at all accommodation in the city.

The Abbey hotel is just a few minutes walk from the coach or train station, and located in the very center of the city. All of the major tourist attractions are ten minutes or less away -- you couldn't ask for a better location.

Glad this was only a business trip as the room and the hotel has no personality and staff were not engaging. Small things in the room could have been changed to give a better experience e.g. mirror at the right height for the dressing table, removalof the last guest's toiletries!!!

Hotel ideally located in the centre of Bath. Short walk to Spa and Roman Baths etc. We had a room below ground level with windows that don't open. A strong perfume scent disguised an underlying musty smell. Room was warm, but air conditioning did its job well. Nice breakfast menu, but Full English not so full. An OK stay.

Nice little hotel in the best possible location in the centre of Bath. Good, discrete service. Average breakfast.

Location was very good. Things did not work (toilet did not flush, even after 2 notices). Repair man came and said the hotel was old, nothing he could do. Desk personall were rude; I requested a room where I did not have to walk stairs (leg problem) they ignored it at first sending me right away to a room requiring stairs. They changed after we complained.

We stayed two nights - booked the first through hotels.com and asked to stay a second night, which was obviously more expensive. Staff did not note we were staying and another guest was given a key (fortunately we were in the room at the time); staff very apologetic and helpful. Hotel is convenient to the train station and right in the middle of town, so expect noise, especially on the weekend.

The Hotel is in a great location and is well decorated. The room was well decorated but the TV was not working on arrival and was only offered to be repaired on departure 3 days later which i declined as i was leaving!. One of the bedside lamps wasnt working and the tiles in the bathroom were only clean to just above head height - dust and grime was visible above head height on the tiles. The internet connection was expensive at £12 per day and you had to stay connected all the time or pay again! There was no safe in the room. The room had cards to put on the bed if you wanted the linen changed - i placed the card on the bed after the second night but the bed was just made up and not changed. The best thing about the stay was the breakfast and the dining room staff who were excellent. The only other good thing about the hotel is its location

It would be hard to beat the location of this hotel. Easy walk from train station, right around the corner from the Abbey & Roman Spas and shopping/eateries. The down side is the location is also near several pubs and the noise level was quite loud on the Saturday evening we were there. The room was much much smaller than expected.

The best thing about the Abbey Hotel is the location - smack in the middle of town. They would do well to spend a bit of TLC on the interior. For example, our bedroom window was propped open with a piece of wood! It was ok.

We had third floor rooms overlooking Bath Abbey and the river. Very comfortable beds, very clean rooms and bathrooms. The rooms were very hot, even in April, but there were fans supplied and the windows do open. The Abbey clock chimes every 15 minutes and there was noise in the early hours from people coming out of the nightclub opposite. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was excellent with a good selction available from the buffet table as well as hot dishes cooked to order including a vegetarian option.

The hotel is ideally placed in the centre of Bath, which was great. Lovely nearby restaurants and cafes, not to mention the spa and shops, all within walking distance. A little noisy in the evening and as such couldn't open the windows and the room was rather warm! Apart from that, all good.

This was a great hotel in an excellent location, right in the middle of Bath. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was fine.

The hotel is located in a great location just about 2 blocks from the Bath Abbey and also the Roman Baths. The breakfasts that was served was great and considering the price of food in England, definately made this hotel a real value. The down side was that the room was very small and the plumbing was poor. The building is very old and the owners have tried to provide modern luxuries but just did not do a good job doing it. Overall thougth, the hotel was worth the cost when you take into consideration the location, great breakfast and also the friendly service.
