Alba Palace Hotel - Florence

Centrally located (5+ minutes walk from SMN railway station), easy access to all the tourist attractions, very friendly and helpful staff, good clean room and bathroom, comfortable bed, very good breakfast and at a very good price. I don't do slumming and this hotel had everything I expected at the price. Would happily recommend to others and stay there again

After reading some reviews here and on TripAdvisor, I booked the Alba Palace for 3 nights while touring around Italy with my girlfriend. The location is fantastic, 5 minutes from the main station (Santa Maria Novella) and then everything you would want to see if Florence is less than 20 minutes walk away! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful at all times, and breakfast (7:30-9:30) was tasty and the breakfast room is beautiful itself. I would certainly return and recommend the Alba Palace to anyone visiting Florence.

Very good for the money

We were very happy with our Alba Palace stay. There was 7 of us and we had stayed in other hotels on our trip to Italy but the Alba Palace was by far the best - the rooms are really lovely, the bathrooms are clean and well equipped. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was relaxing, good choice of food and helpful serving staff. I do not award excellent easily, but I am happy to do so in the case of Alba Palace Hotel.

This was the Best hotel we stayed during our trip to Italy in August 2009. My family and I (2 kids) got a Family room through hotels.com for a couple of nights. Room #3 in which we stayed had a wonderful private Jacuzzi room with a ceiling that was painted with the sky and clouds. The kids had a loft upstairs with plenty of room. The morning breakfast was filling and had a good assortment. We loved the cappuccinos and hot chocolates for the kids (you have to request these at Breakfast). The hotel had free Internet (although I had to wait to use the guest computer). The staff was friendly and helpful. We arrived at noon and they had our room ready. The hotel was only a few blocks from the Central station (less than 5 minute walk) so if you are arriving/departing by train this is especially convenient. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Duomo. This was a 4 star hotel at 3 star prices.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was a short walk from the train station. The price was fantastic and the breakfast was decent. The room and bathroom were small, but sufficient.

The Alba Palace is within walking distance of the railstation The rooms were clean and well appointed the air con worked well ( needed in August) We travelled by train and we were able to walk to all the sites in Florence. there are enough small bars and resteraunts close to the hotel and the perfume museum is in the same street a few doors down. We tried the local trattoria one street back and were not dissappointed. the breakfast dining area was really nice and the breakfast fine. we stopped for only two nights but a longer stay there would be great.

We literally plucked this hotel from dozens on the internet - Trip Advisor had the usual mix of reviews, but it seemed central to everything, so we went for it... and we were sooooo glad that we did! It's within walking distance of the train station, the duomo, the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery... everything! The staff were polite, efficient and spoke excellent English (also very amused at our attempts at Italian!) - the room was modern, clean, spacious and very comfortable. Whether you're staying for the weekend (as we were) or longer, you'll be hard pushed to find a better hotel than this for any price! Benissimo!!

I was very pleased and comfortable at the hotel. Good location especially if you are leaving or arriving by train. The breakfast was very good.

When we walked in, I wasn't sure this place was going to work out, but it had been a while since we traveled abroad and overall it was a great experience. Very clean, very helpful staff, located in a great location. We were very happy and pleased with our experience here.

great location, a few mintues from the train station and close to all the site also, no need to take buses around the city, you can woalk to everything. Rooms are clean and bright, breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Definitely a 3 star which is what you pay for. Low cost for a tiny room and bathroom. Location is decent - with walking distance of train station and major sites. Neighborhood was a little weird after dark./

I just returned from a lovely visit to Italy. While in Florence, I stayed at this hotel and it was really great. The location is awesome: about a 2 minute walk from the train station, a 5 minute walk to the Duomo and within walking distance to many great restaurants. The staff is really friendly (I celebrated my birthday while I was there and they helped my parents arrange for flowers to be sent to my room, etc), the rooms are spacious for Europe and the shower is a great size (rare to find!). The rooms were very clean, the hotel is on a quiet street and they have free internet. The breakfast was kind of limited, but nothing that would make or break this hotel. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're traveling to Florence.

We loved this hotel. We had booked for 4 people and our room was spacious and had a lovely bathroom as well.We had internet services and a large screen TV. The recommendations by the staff for good restaurants were wonderful and very fun dining!The staff was friendly and available to help meet your every need.

This hotel is extremely close to the main railway station in Florence and a short walk to the main attractions. The Staff were extremely helpful and Wi-Fi acess is free, although patchy. It has recently been re-furbished and currently offers good value for money for anyone wanting to visit Florence. The Street it is on appears to be slowly up grading

We arrived in Florence via train, so the location of Alba Palace was perfect for us - no taxi needed, it's just a short walk. The hotel was updated and clean and the room was bright with a good size bathroom. Breakfast was filling and the dining area was pleasant. Staff was very friendly.

For those who travel via public transit such as train, this hotel is located within walking distance of train station. It's close to city center and local street market. Staff are nice and helpful, breakfast is included which can save some money especially if you're on a budget. There are free wifi, which is great, however you will need to request user name and password from the front counter. We thought we booked a suite, however it appears we book a quad room with one double bed and two single beds. Make sure you verify before booking.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the hotel was clean and comfortable. All the things that you are looking for in a well priced hotel. It was in a great location as well. Moments from the Santa Maria Novello church. I would recommend.

This hotel is close to all of the action. It's a short walk to the train station, and a short walk to the Duomo. Although the neighborhood is not the prettiest, it's safe and very convenient.

The hotel was a potential winner but our room ended up have a number of mosquitoes and other small flying insects. Can't recommend because of that.

my friends and i stayed at this hotel (may 23 to 25) great location, we walked everywhere we needed to go and its close to the train station.

The room was small, but we expected that. The breakfast room was charming. The staff was brilliant.

The room was larger the what we thought and the jacuzzi was so large it could have fit all four of us and had a room by its self. Very nice, the only thing that would have made it better would be some comfortable chairs to sit in. The staff were great, very helpful and very nice. The location was great for getting around and the were pleanty of places near by. We enjoyed our stay there and would go back again. Really good breakfast too, for a European breakfast. They had alot to choose from.

Great hotel with a great location. Nice breakfast. Only "con" would be the price of the parking but given it's location, property is at a premium so it's to be expected.

The Alba Palace was recommended by a friend and, since staying there, that person is still a friend. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the station on a reasonably quiet street. It is also handy for most of the main sights of Florence, all being within walking distance in what is a compact city anyway. The room was a good size, clean and quite well-equipped for a hotel of this standard. Breakfast was in a covered atrium, consisting of fruit juice, cereal, fruit, croissants, rolls, toast, yogourt and plentiful tea and coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel staff was very good. They went out of their way to try to help with minor problems and to assist us in locating information on the sights of Florence. Breakfast was a good value.

The hotel is conveniently located near the Florence SMN train station and within walking distance to the major sites and shopping areas. The room was spacious for a family of 4. The complimentary breakfast was satisfactory with a nice variety of food. The staff was friendly and the free internet service a plus. Overall, a very good value.

This hotel was perfect for our needs. Close to train station and all the sights in Florence. Nice and clean, very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast. The only downside was the noise from the bar acrossed the street but we knew about that from previous posts on this site. It was a minor inconvenience. Being close to all the action means that you might have to put up with a little noise. Excellent value for the money considering the location.

The hotel is centrally located, just around the corner from the train station and not far from any of the sites. The hotel is modern, clean and very comfortable with a great atrium area for breakfast. The front desk staff were very polite.

After a dismal stay in Rome, i was expecting the same in Florence. But the Alba Palace surprised me. The hotel is very close to the Firenze station (less than 5 mins of a walk). The staff are very friendly and prompt with their service. Breakfast was part of the room fare. The room was very nicely done--was comfortable and had a pleasing decor. I'll add here that the decor was lovely everywhere in the hotel. Our room was bright, cozy and the space had been very efficiently used. I would definitely stay here again. The one small warning i would add is to ask folks to keep away from the restaurants the front desk recommends to you. These places tend to fleece you!

I booked the Alba Palace hotel for three nights in February based on its price and location. I have been to Italy before and knew that European room standards are quite different than what we expect in the States. I was traveling with my brother, and requested a room with two twin beds. We took a cab from the termini and laughed when the driver drove us approximately 2 blocks!!!! It is that close. No need for a cab...it is an easy walk. We were a bit early for check in, so we ordered two glasses of vino rosso for a total of 5 euro in the hotel lobby and kicked back to relax. Our room was ready before we even finished our first glass! We were sent to room 106 (second floor to us!!) The room was small, but clean and had a total of three twin beds! I took the two twins pushed together and left my brother with the single. Beds were hard but who cares! We drank enough wine each night that it was never an issue. The bathroom was larger than most than I've seen in Italy, and I was quite surprised. The quarters were tight, but enough room for us to set up our suitcases and navigate thru the room. Our window opened up to a lovely courtyard and we left it open most morning as we were getting ready. The walls are thin---and we could easily hear the British ladies next door chatting...but again...it didn't bother us one bit. There is an internet room available which was great for checking email and communicating with family at home. I can't comment on breakfast as it was served from 7:30 - 9:30 and we were never awake by that time!!! :) The breakfast room was cute and bright and looked like a pleasant place to sit in the am. The front desk staff was VERY friendly and was able to take care of any of our needs or requests. There is a decent wine bar about a half a block from the hotel....and a fantastic pub named The Fiddler's Elbow nearby. Great location, only three blocks from the train terminal, the room was very small,the bed was also very small, but kept clean, friendly staff, very good breakfast, had own bathroom that was newly renovated and very clean, had an elevator and a huge flat screen TV in the room., also had internet available for free. Really very nice stay.

It was very difficult to find fault with the Alba Palace as it offered great value for money. The location was excellent only 5 minutes from the railway station and the same from the centre of Florence. All the staff we met from the cleaners to the reception staff were helpful and welcoming. The rooms, while not large were clean and comfortable, and looked like they had been recently decorated. Our room had a new LCD TV in it. Breakfast was OK. I'd certainly recommend the hotel if your looking for somewhere comfortable, convenient and cheap.

The hotel was so nice, the staff is great. No complain - Just perfect.

this hotel for the price you cannot beat in florence, the train and bus station is right around the corner, taxi service readily available, decent breakfast,all of the sights are in walking distance, david, duomo, porte vecchio, san lorenzo marketplace, truely minutes away, get a map before venturing off tho, and you will see how convenient everything is to the hotel, quite a few little resturants close by, lots of shopping in florence the hotel night clerk is something to remember, he brings his own tv into the lobby , has his pillow in the chair, and you will not get any help from him while his games shows are on, we just had to laugh, the rest of the staff was quite helpful during the day, the rooms were very nice, and the towels were plush, the room was very quiet except for when you opened the window, so be ware of that, if you wish to book cooking classes or bus tours,there is a travel service by the train depot, and they are glad to help you out, november is a great time to travel italy, you may get a few rain showers, but the prices are more reasonable, the hotel also offers free internet access great bargain enjoy

My single room was very small, but perfect for just me for one night. It was incredibly clean, modern, and the hotel decor had a lovely Tuscan feel. The location was absolutely perfect, and my room looked out onto the street (as opposed to an alley, roof or wall), which I really enjoyed. I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel for the price I paid. Also, I had to catch a bus early in the morning - before the 7:30 breakfast time. But the receptionist made an effort to have breakfast ready early and I was able to grab some food before I left. It was really thoughtful!

Alba Palace Hotel is in a great location near main train station ( airport bus 'Teravision' from Pisa stops at train station ) - short walk to main attractions and good restaurants nearby.

This is one of the best plces i have stayed for the money i payed the hotel was excellent the staff very friendly and helpful, I like continental breakfast so this was first class in my view.

The hotel staff was very friendly. They even set up a baby crib for our son in advance (I didn't have to remind them). The breakfast was great with lots of variety. The rooms were very clean and spacious. Our room had a nice flat screen TV (though we didn't watch it much). The hotel is also close to the train station and a short walk to other attractions.

Lovely little hotel just around the corner from the Santa Maria Novella station. Great character and helpful staff. A hidden gem. The room was perhaps a bit on the small side and the bed a bit hard but all perfectly clean and well kept. The breakfast was typical continental and again the staff were lovely helping us with English Breakfast tea each morning! If you're looking for a cheap, pleasant place to stay I can't reccommend this highly enough.

Smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in - but very clean. Very helpful staff - offered to change my street facing room after the first night - and allowed me to have breakfast after I got up after it should have finished. The hotel is ideally located very close to the station, and a short stroll from all the wonderful sights and sounds of Florence.

The Alba was a good base for our couple of days in florence. Not a long walk to the centre (10 mins max) and near to the station to make the most of day trips to Pisa or Sienna. Local restaurants were good value and served good food.

The hotel is very modern and really close to all the main attractions. Rooms are spotless but on the small side. The only drawback is that the rooms facing the street can get a bit noisy with drunks shouting in the street in the small hours. Very helpful staff. Overall a good place to stay and good value for money
